Saturday

Well, what an "exhausting" week.

Monday, I was sick and stayed home--everyone else was dismissed at 9:30 am because it was snowing.

Tuesday--school started two hours late because the roads were crappy.

Wednesday--always a half-day for kids.  The evening board meeting was cancelled due to the extreme cold.

Thursday--school called off because the wind chill was almost 60 below zero.

Friday--school also called off because of extremely cold temperatures.

Ack.  What an end to the quarter!

I didn't do squat on Thursday--I was tired and slept most of the day.

Yesterday, I did up the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen.  It looks nice (except for the floor).  I also did all but one load of laundry.  Jim and DeAnn picked me up on their way to Rochester.  They dropped me off at school to work while they shopped.  It was about 3:30 when they dropped me off, and it was around 6:00 when they picked me up again.

We went to eat at Fiesta Mexicana.  I had chicken enchiladas, and they were delicious.  I wish I knew how to make refried beans the way they do in the restaurants.  I just love the combination of refried beans and rice.

Swayze J was in rare form.  He is such a little charmer.

Today, I finished the laundry.  The last load is in the dryer.  I will bring it up and put it away tomorrow.

I tidied up the living room a bit today--and cut out the "scout uniforms" for my LeeAnn dolls and took pictures of the Marley collection as today is the one year anniversary of my "Marley Moms" group.  I carried two baskets of laundry up and will put them away in the morning.

I'm too tired tonight.

It's about bedtime.

I'm worried about my cat.  She isn't eating much.  Also, she seems to be having labored breathing too.  She is acting normally other than that.  I think I am going to have to take her to the veterinarian.

I don't want to delay and have her get worse.  I'm hoping it is only a bad tooth--that's what happened to my son when he didn't eat.  He wanted to, but it hurt him too much.  She sits in front of her dish and looks at it, and tries to eat, but only eats a morsel or two.

My poor baby.

She's a geriatric kitty now, but I'm hoping she has a few years left in her.  She's such a good girl--other than her puking issues.  And that isn't her fault.  Poor girl.

Very sad day.

Didn't do much this week. Except move all of the books around in the school library. And didn't finish so I'll have more to move in two weeks when I go back.

Today I went to my parents' house. My nephew is going back to Berkley tomorrow so they all came down for a BBQ. Got there around noon. Noticed Candy, my parents' dog seemed a bit quiet and sad. My sister's family showed up, then some friends and their dog. But Candy didn't beg at the table much and didn't play much. We had a little nap on the carpet and she seemed to have some labored breathing. Then my Dad tells me she ate some rat poison earlier in the week. He claimed she would have had to eat a lot of it for four days in a row to hurt her. After we got back from her afternoon walk I called poison control. They said take her to the vet. I got the paper with the ingredients from him and googled it. Diphacinone. Nasty stuff. Made my Dad read it and we all went to the Emergency Vet Clinic. Sorta like the people emergency room on a Sat. night. Took 3 hours before they could see her. Meantime my Dad took me back to their house (while my Mom made a downpayment; she didn't want my Dad to see the bill.) Then an hour later they came home without her.

Her blood wouldn't clot. It was supposed to clot after 18-20 seconds. After 2 min. they stopped counting. They're giving her plasma and meds and watching her. Not sure what they can do. I called the tech when I got home and he said she's sedated and stable and as long as she doesn't have a bleed she should be fine.

But if she dies it will kill my Dad. He loves that dog.

I told the clinic that if for any reason my parents say to stop treatment because it's too expensive to call me immediately and I'll give them my credit card so they can continue to treat her.

So please pray that Candy gets better. She'll only 3 1/2 years old and a very sweet, good girl. She was even wagging her tail in the waiting room when the tech was taking her information.

I will pray for her. Poor sweet thing.

why is rat poison in a place she can get at it?

Sometimes parents are just like small children who need to be smacked....sigh.

She's home. She's fine.

Well, they had her on plasma last night. I'm sure also oxygen and subcutaneous vitamin K injections. That's the protocol.

My Mom called this morning at 6:40 am to say they called and Candy's blood is coagulating normally now and she can be picked up by noon. Mom called at 11 am and Candy is home but needs to take vitamin K orally for a month and needs a week of quiet. So no visit from Ramses today.

Yes, parents can be just like children. I've printed out a bunch of information on the rodenticide. My Dad had a lot of obsolete information.

I hope my parents realize that *I* am the reason that dog is alive. I called poison control and did an online search for info that indicated she was seriously sick enough to go to the doggie ER. In fact, I'm the one that noticed right away that she just wasn't her normal self. If I hadn't gone over there today, noticed and done the research, they would have waited until Monday when the vet's office opened. And she'd probably be dead by then.

Just another instance of why we should be looking at natural solutions, not relying on toxins for an easy, cheap fix.

I hope all your kitty has is a bad tooth that can be cured easily. I wish you a barf-free week.

And thanks for the prayers. I'm sure they helped a lot.

The afghan books will be on their way soon. I need to do some photocopying first.
