The Floods of September
Mantorville by my favorite "Thinking Spot," the dam.

The day before, there was no sign of the dam. It was completely under a LOT of water. The river was right up to the bottom of the bridge. It was over its banks, covering the whole park (which it still mostly was when I was taking these pictures) and was almost up to the police station, more than a block from the river.

All this was underwater the day before I took these pictures.

The trees are normally not in the water.
Just Outside of West Concord.

This is a soybean field--usually there is barely a trickle running through there.

It was over the road here on Thursday.
OWATONNA BY THE DAM AND THE POWER PLANT

There is a dam under all that water. The water is over the bottom of the foot bridge over the river. That's a little park and playground on the far side of the bridge--the river has eaten it.

Closer view of the walking bridge. Sad.

Another view of walking bridge.

Close up of the playground area. Any little kids playing there now better be wearing life jackets.

The power plant is in the back.

Looking down the river channel--normally there is a wide grassy area between the road and the river. The river has gobbled it up and is lapping at the edge of the road.

You can see the water mark on the trees, showing that the river was a foot higher--and probably more than that.

This is some poor devil's driveway--ducks are now swimming over it.

Behind the ducks in the driveway is the poor house. Sad.

This is some beautiful fall scenery in a non-flooded part of town.

This is the swamp on the back-road way to Ellendale. It was over the road here too.

The swamp ate up this driveway--I don't know if it is washed out or just underwater.
