Mantorville by my favorite "Thinking Spot," the dam.

photo

The day before, there was no sign of the dam.  It was completely under a LOT of water.  The river was right up to the bottom of the bridge.  It was over its banks, covering the whole park (which it still mostly was when I was taking these pictures) and was almost up to the police station, more than a block from the river.

photo

Incredibly, this is the area where I usually park to contemplate while watching the water going over the dam.

photo

All this was underwater the day before I took these pictures.

The trees are normally not in the water.

Just Outside of West Concord.

This is a soybean field--usually there is barely a trickle running through there.

It was over the road here on Thursday.

OWATONNA BY THE DAM AND THE POWER PLANT

photo

There is a dam under all that water.  The water is over the bottom of the foot bridge over the river.  That's a little park and playground on the far side of the bridge--the river has eaten it.

photo

The electric plant is behind that building in  the background.  They were pumping water out of it when I drove past.

photo

Closer view of the walking bridge.  Sad.

Another view of walking bridge.

Close up of the playground area.  Any little kids playing there now better be wearing life jackets.

photo

The power plant is in the back.

photo

Looking down the river channel--normally there is a wide grassy area between the road and the river.  The river has gobbled it up and is lapping at the edge of the road.

photo

You can see the water mark on the trees, showing that the river was a foot higher--and probably more than that.

photo

This is some poor devil's driveway--ducks are now swimming over it.

photo

Behind the ducks in the driveway is the poor house.  Sad.

This is some beautiful fall scenery in a non-flooded part of town.

photo
This is the swamp on the back-road way to Ellendale.  It was over the road here too.

The swamp ate up this driveway--I don't know if it is washed out or just underwater.

It looks like it may have flooded her building site too.

I remember.

I remember your little quiet spot dam where you contemplate where your navel used to be.

What happened? Has there been a lot of rain or are a lot of glaciers melting?

If possibly, please mail excess water to Southern California. We'll also take any extra trees and green grass. Ducks optional but welcome also too.

Thank you.

We had about ten inches of rain over night and all the next day. We actually got sent home from school early on Thursday due to the flooding of roads.

10 inches in 24 hours? Well, that would do it.

But it's not like you can plan for something freaky like that. And it's not likely to happen again. Unless it does and those climate change guys were right.

Please send water priority mail so it does not evaporate. Don't forget air holes for ducks.
