Mom was talking earlier today about the rug in the furnace room being wet. "It's never been wet before," she said, not quite accusingly.

Well, I got up to use the bathroom tonight, and there is a narrow stretch in the furnace room with a swath of water over it--I don't think the drain is fully functional. The hoses for the water dealy are in the drain hole where they belong, but the water itself was over the top of my foot.

I poked my cane down the drain a couple of times, and the water did seem to be draining, albeit very slowly.

This is what I fear--any time something unusual happens, it is either going to be my fault or the cats' fault--which means it is my fault.

Hasn't enough shit happened already? Can't things just run smoothly for a while?

The day before, there was no sign of the dam. It was completely under a LOT of water. The river was right up to the bottom of the bridge. It was over its banks, covering the whole park (which it still mostly was when I was taking these pictures) and was almost up to the police station, more than a block from the river.

Incredibly, this is the area where I usually park to contemplate while watching the water going over the dam.

All this was underwater the day before I took these pictures.

The trees are normally not in the water.

This is a soybean field--usually there is barely a trickle running through there.

It was over the road here on Thursday.

OWATONNA BY THE DAM AND THE POWER PLANT

There is a dam under all that water. The water is over the bottom of the foot bridge over the river. That's a little park and playground on the far side of the bridge--the river has eaten it.

The electric plant is behind that building in the background. They were pumping water out of it when I drove past.

Looking down the river channel--normally there is a wide grassy area between the road and the river. The river has gobbled it up and is lapping at the edge of the road.
