Well, it is Sunday—I am having a quiet day, doing laundry and doing some tidying up.

Yesterday I went to see Batman:   The Dark Knight.  It was good.  The joker as played by Heath Ledger was very creepy and dark.  I was aghast at one of the bits of plot, thinking that they had gone waaaay off the mark, but it was okay.

Ingrid and I went to the Sky Dragon Chinese buffet after the movie.  Their Mongolian beef is incredible.  The beef is tender and the onions are mild.  They have just the right amount of spice in it too—so it has a little zing but doesn’t burn your mouth off.

The also had….coconut macaroons….my favorite.

When I got home, I finished the wrap around jean skirt I was making for the Marley “Dairy Month” swap.  It is terribly late, along with the other two June swaps I have yet to mail out, but since I have not received my gifts from my swap partners either, well, I don’t feel too bad about it.

I have my second load in the washer—one more to go after this.

I’m working on clearing off my dining room table while writing this and talking to one of my internet friends on instant messenger.

I put a bid on four dolls on Ebay today—three are Marley sized dolls, two of which have been converted into boys, and the other was a Tiny Kitty.  I have one Tiny Kitty doll…she does need a friend, I guess.  I won it.  :)

Here's the group I won.    I'm looking forward to seeing them in person.

I am actually trying to reduce the number of dolls I have.  I sent several boxes full to other doll collectors over the last few months.  I got rid of a lot of my big dolls—even some from my childhood.  Those all went to a collector named Kathy who lives in Texas.

I really need to thin the numbers of my barbies down significantly.  I’d like to get rid of 2/3 of them.  My doll collecting focus has been on the Tonner dolls (and the compatible Kish dolls) for the last several months.

I am trying to be very selective in my acquisitions.  I don’t want to get into the same situation with them as I did with the Barbies.

I only want to buy the ones that really really speak to me.  Right now, the dolls I most want are Rhett Butler from the Tonner Gone with the Wind collection, Lord Asriel from the Tonner Golden Compass collection, and Alice from the Tonner Through the Looking Glass collection.

Above are Rhett Butler and Lord Asriel.  Lyra is standing next to him; she is on sale, but she just doesn't appeal to me much.

And here is Through the Looking Glass Alice.

I have some pictures I want to show of things I have made, but I will save them for another post.

I want Lord Asriel too, as I have five big girls and Matt is way too in touch with his feminine side, as it were; we need another big guy.

Hey Cho,

Glad you won the collection! Yesterday was very productive for both of us. I hope the conversion isn't too traumatizing on a few of those dolls. Mid-August is just a few short weeks away.

Have a great week!

A blonde Alice?

It's been so long since I read the book. Is Alice a blonde or a brunette? Disney always portrayed her as a blonde but that doesn't mean anything. Ariel lived in the end and married the prince. You can't count on Disney for any kind of accuracy.

Rhett is pretty hot. And that Sam Elliot doll is really unusual.

Lord Ariel reminds me too much of Leslie Howard in Gone with the Wind. Rather whimpy. Never did see what Scarlett saw in him.

I've finished my taxes. Refunds for every year. Don't know if they're going to deny me any refunds for them being late. It's a wait and see. Mailed them last Saturday. But,....if they give me every penny and I didn't make any mistakes....I'll be able to pay off my car and my credit cards. I can't believe it.

The dishwasher has arrived. I borrowed the reciprocating saw from my Dad. I'll be starting demolition this week. I need to cut the hot water and sweat in a T and a shut off for the hot water feed. The drain line is easy. It will just go into the garbage disposal. I will have to put an outlet under the sink for the electrical. I'm wiring the dishwasher with a plug. The real hard part in all of this is the demolition; making the cabinet accomodate the dishwasher. Won't know to what extent I'll be modifying until I actually get the dishwasher out of the box which I won't do until the kitchen is completely cleared out. I so wish I could fit a portable in the kitchen but I just don't have the space.

I have four weeks left. I still have to install the dishwasher, fix the driveway and reglaze my dining room window. And clean the house. But it's looking better now that all of the tax stuff is boxed. I have tons to carry to the attic.

I need to start getting rid of stuff. I have a pile of "sell on eBay" stuff I haven't done a thing with for a year. It needs to go. I'd just give it away but I really need to try to sell it first. Every penny counts.

The weather hasn't been bad. I staked up the tomatoes today. I should have used cages. Three are sprawling bushes. Only one is good for staking. With luck....maybe they'll reseed themselves next year. I hope. The grape tomatoes are like eating candy. I hardly get any...my Mother wants them all.

Still haven't gone to any movies except Indiana Jones for Father's Day. I want to see Wall-E and Mama Mia. Pierce Brosnin AND Colin Firth are in Mama Mia. I want to see it despite the fact the Brosnin sings and Firth's character turns out to be gay. It's supposed to be an "American Bollywood".

Ah, what a waste to woman kind if Collin Firth were gay. That man has SOMETHING...even a little older and pudgier, I'd have him....LOL

Yes, I have to get rid of a lot of crap (see most recent post with horrifyingly cluttered pictures). I belong to a yahoo group called "Braty's Garage Sale" where people post up pictures of stuff they want to sell instead of Ebay. I've only sold a couple of things, but I've got a couple of doll bargains there too.

I am hoping more will move if the economy ever improves. Sigh.

Yummy yummy tomatoes. I bought some from a roadside stand on Saturday and ate tomato sandwiches for breakfast on sunday. They were not as good as I had hoped they were--no better than supermarket ones, but it was better than nothing.

I am dying for a real, ripe, freshly picked tomato...sigh sigh sigh
