This is my back yard.  The neighbors and the city pile their snow in my back yard.  No idea why.

You can see how deep the snow is here....and believe it or not, it snowed MORE since I took these pictures.

There is so much snow on the ground that the poor pheasants can't find food.  These crab apple trees are right outside of my classroom window.  One day, one of the kids spotted them and we all rushed to the window to have a look.  I sent one to get Blair and another to get Jay and we took some pictures.  There were three of them up there at one point, but the other one took off into the brush.  They were gobbling up those crab apples like there was no tomorrow.

poor things.

Why is it?

Why is it that I always run out of money before the bills are all paid and I always run out of steam before the household chores are all done?

Today, I cleaned the "kitty litter box corner."  It was horrible.  I don't always move the boxes away from the walls when I clean that area, and today, I completely emptied the corner, cleaned the boxes, swept the floor, and rearranged things in a more suitable fashion.  I have not yet mopped.  I was waiting to be done with laundry and cooking before I did the mopping.  Primarily because I cannot cook without dropping SOMETHING on the floor.  Sigh.

Today I made a huge roaster of lasagna (from scratch) and a big pot of chicken noodle casserole.  Both turned out nicely, if I do say so myself.

I just finished doing up the last of the dishes--I had done a ton of other dishes before and during the cooking spree.  All that were left were the last dregs from packaging the food up to send to Jim and DeAnn's house and to put away in my fridge.  I promised Jonah VanProosdy that I would bring him in a slice of lasagna the next time I made it, so I have already packaged a piece up for him.

Now I am tired and I do not feel like doing anything else.

I am afraid to NOT do something else, for fear that there will be no snow day--even though it is looking very promising at this point, since the storm is coming through our "sweet spot."  They are now saying possibly over 12".  Yuck.  BUT--I can deal with it if it will give me a couple of days off  to continue working on this house.

The thing about school--even though I love my job and adore my boss and kids--I am DONE when I come home from school in the afternoon.  I have barely enough energy left to warm up something to eat.    Then when the weekend comes, it is like I have to have at least half of Saturday just to sleep in because I am soooo tired.

I think if I had three day weekends, it would be ideal.  You'd be less tired and stressed because you'd only work four days instead of five, and you'd have one day to rest and recover and two to do all the crap that needs to be done at home.  Maybe you could even squeeze in a little bit of fun...once a month or so....

Who am I kidding?  Who has time for fun???

Besides Claire that is.  LOL.

I got a lot of stuff done today.

I did a bunch of dishes and cleaned out my refrigerator.  I sacked up a bunch of garbage in the kitchen and cleaned out the cat boxes.

I cleaned up the big disaster next to my bed, cleaned out all the drawers in my bedside table and reorganized them, and put away a basket of stuff in the bathroom.

I wrapped up all my presents, including the two that I need to mail off tomorrow.  I just have to look up the addresses.  I packed all the gifts that are going to my mom's into a laundry basket.  Perhaps tomorrow, I will take the outside and put them in the car.  Less to carry out on Christmas day.  I still need to wrap Jim and DeAnn's gifts.  I already wrapped Josue's.  I hope he likes it.  I almost kept it for myself.  It is the cutest little thing.  It is the otter webkin.  It matches my couch perfectly.  It looked so cute laying on my couch!  But, I am trying to thin out my toy collection--not add more to it!

Toys--I can't help it that I love them.

I got all my laundry downstairs, but did not sort it out yet.  Maybe tomorrow.   I would like to get it all washed before Christmas.  I really don't want to drag my laundry to mom's house over Christmas.

I hauled some stuff to the craft room but didn't put anything in there away.

Ingrid's husband Jim called me later and hounded me again to come to their house for supper.  He came to get me and shoveled a path to my door for me, so that was sweet.  My biggest fear was having to clamber through the snow which is about a foot deep in my yard.  I'll try to get a picture or two of it tomorrow.  It is an impressive amount of snow.  We are definitely having a white Christmas this year.

More snow coming on Tuesday, I guess.

Yuck.

I am missing my sweetpea tonight--I miss talking to him, sharing our days, trying to figure things out together.  I miss the laughter.  It's like an ache.  Like the ache in my knee.  I think that losing Michael has triggered my loneliness for my little punkin as well.

sigh

Life is hard.

It seems likely.

Kingsland has already closed for tomorrow.

We are supposed to be getting an inch an hour all night. I'll have to locate someone to plow out my driveway. Currently, they are saying 6 to 10 inches, and wind.

If we have a snowday, I will bake cookies. Chocolate chip cookies for Jim and DeAnn and oatmeal raisin cookies to send to my friend Michael. He loves those.

This will be our first snowday of the school year. I love snow days.

Not much happened today.

I got a ton of correcting done at school today. I have a few more to do--the Green Mile compositions and the "Ghost hunting" compositions from Senior Seminar. I have to make the evaluation sheets for them before I correct them. Once I get started it will not take long.

My secret santa did not give me anything today. Boo. I always give to my secret santa EVERY DAY--sometimes two or three times in a day.

Susan and I left school just a little early because she saw that it was freezing drizzle in Faribault and didn't want to get caught in it half way home. I considered asking her to stop at the grocery store so I could buy some bacon--I've been really hungry for bacon and eggs--but I didn't.

I could probably get some here at the Motor Mart. Maybe.

If it isn't godawful tomorrow, I will venture out and get bacon, some chips, and a movie.

When I got home, I turned on my tree and sat in my chair to look at it. I fell asleep in my chair and was even dreaming random weird chair-nap dreams.

My friend Lisa called and woke me up, otherwise I might still be there asleep now. I sewed a bit on my fairy-motif dresses before eating some warmed up KFC chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a biscuit. I had coleslaw with it, and a big glass of water. I would have liked a big piece of chocolate cake too, but alas, no such thing exists in my house.

Not much else is new.

I am thinking of my dear sweetpea Papillion tonight and hoping and praying that he and his sweet family are doing well and that they are getting fired up for the Christmas holidays.

I am happy with my little tree. I haven't strung my popcorn and cranberries yet, but maybe tomorrow if there is a snow day, I can do it then.

well, I am getting very sleepy, so I guess it is time to go to sleep.

Good night all. Sweet dreams.

I woke up Friday morning and it was snowing.  it had apparently snowed some in the night as there was snow covering the ground and also sort of packed on the plants and things.  The flakes were really big and fluffy, and it was soooo pretty.  I had my camera with me so I took a few pictures.

This is what remains of my flower garden (those are the corpses of my echinachea plants).
I think it is cool how the falling flakes caught the flash of my camera.

My backyard.  The snowless patches are my sidewalk that leads to the alley and to the shed.
I love the way the snow catches the light.

This is looking north from the alley behind my house.  Look at the snowflakes!  They look like big puffy kernals of popcorn.

This was taken in Byron, next to the Kwik Trip.  I love pictures of the snow.  I was stopped at the red light.

This is by the drive  through menu of McDonalds in Byron.  That tree with the large pine cones all frosted with snow was just too cool.  I had to get a picture.  It made me feel like singing Christmas Carols.

This was taken later in the afternoon on my way home.

Another shot as i am leaving Rochester.

I took this picture when I was stopped at a red light.  You can't see  the snow at all in this one.

Winter has finally arrived. This last week has been godawful cold. But there have been some really pretty days with snow and frosty trees.

The first picture here was the first snow fall of the season.  It was about 7:30 pm, and I had just returned home from seeing the movie Dreamer in Kasson.  The movie was quite sweet, as you would expect from a Disney flick.

The next two pictutes are from a very frosty Sunday.  My nephew Erik wanted me to come pick him up so we could go to see Aeon Flux.   I didn't really want to go to the movie on Sunday, as I had a lot of housework and other stuff to do--but Erik is a ninth grader now.  The days of him wanting to go to the movies with his scraggly old Aunty are most likely limited, so I have to seize every opportunity I can to spend time with him.

These are both pictures at my sister Joni's house.  The first is a picture of her front yard--you can't really tell, but this is a pond with lots of statuary and a really cool path leading out to a little gazebo type place.  In the summer it is gorgeous with tons of flowers.  I promise I will get some pictures of that when the time comes.  The other is a picture of the trees lining their driveway on the way up to the house.  I love the look of snow on pines.

I took these pictures on Saturday while waiting for DeAnn to come and get me.  The first one is my house and my car and the second is the gorgeous Baptist church which is on the corner across the street from my house.  It was FREAKING cold, but very pretty.  We were on our way to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Kasson for the second time.

The first is the view from the end of my driveway looking East.  The second, looking west.

The theater in Kasson is really quite picturesque.  It is an old theater that has been restored--I love the ticket counter and how it is lit up.  I took these pictures AFTER the movie--it was dark, there was a light snow falling, and the Christmas lights looked lovely.  I was pleased with the way the lights showed up in these pictures.

I have no idea who this little boy is.  He was at the theater dressed up in Kwidditch robes, so I asked him if I could take his picture.  His mom thought that was funny and didn't mind.  Isn't he cute?  In the second picture, he is acting as if he is about to cast a spell.

This will be it for this post.  The first picture here are Asa and Katie Denton--Asa was in my homeroom before a (excuse the profanity) fucking recruiter convinced him that a GED would be good enough, screwed him out of his last two years of high school, and made him the promise, which I am SURE is a lie, that he will NOT be sent to Iraq.  Katie is his wife--and Molly Renee is their adorable daughter.  They came directly to R.O.C. after they were released from the hospital.  That's the kind of place I work at.  It is not a job.  It is a family.

I feel like little Molly is my grandchild, almost, since Asa is my "son."

He is a darling boy, and Katie is a sweet and delightful girl.  I know the odds are stacked against them, being so young, but, dang it, I HOPE they can beat the odds and be happy.  And I hope that the fucking military doesn't kill off my Asa.  Bastards.
