I was quite grateful to discover there were no puke piles anywhere in the house today.  Yay!

I took a shower and put on my new outfit in honor of Independence Day.  It was not patriotic in theme, though.  The capri pants are bright pink, and the shirt is pale pink with bright pink flamingos on it.  It was on sale really cheap in Woman Within, so I got it--even though it probably makes my ass look five miles wide.

I like bright pink.

It's such a cheerful color.

I had a nice chat with my sister Tammy on the phone.  She was working on her basement, which is full of Sadie's toys and her deceased mother-in-law's stuff.  She and Bert have rented a storage unit and are moving a lot of their stuff over there to get rid of clutter until they know whether or not they are selling their house and moving.

Bert is swinging like a pendulum on the moving issue--some days he is gung ho to move and others you'd swear he'd sunk roots to China to hold him there.  It is a beautiful place.  But pretty isolated, and Tammy needs to make more human connections to ease her loneliness.  I have told her I would go take some art classes or college courses if I were her--there are lots of colleges within driving distance of her place.  I wish there were something like that close to me.  The nearest college is over an hour away.  There are a couple of community colleges nearby, but I don't know if they'd offer anything I would be interested in.  If they offered Spanish classes, I wouldn't mind taking a few more Spanish classes.

I suppose I could get one of those Rosetta Stone programs and try to learn it on my own.  I think it is easier to learn, though, if you are in a class.  I had a lot of fun at my Spanish classes that I took through Mankato State years ago.

At about 1:30, I picked up my mother and took her to Owatonna where we picked up my sister Kim and got burgers at Wendy's.  Then we went to Mineral Springs Park and had a little picnic.  It is so beautiful there.  We hung out with Kim till about 4 pm,  then went back to Mom's where we watched two movies--Doris, starring Sally Field and Hidden Figures, about the black women mathematicians who worked for NASA in the 1960s.  I was a little shocked that NASA was so backwards regarding women and race in those days--you would think they would have valued the mind above any other consideration.

Mom made popcorn for supper, and I headed back to my house a little after 9 pm.  It was a quiet night.  Except for the neighbor kid shooting off loud fire crackers.  Stewie and Peaches are normally not freaked out by stuff like that, but those fire crackers made them very uneasy.  Ultimately, they both hid under the bed until the middle of the night.

That's about it for the Fourth of July.

It would have been my Dad's birthday.  He would have been 86.  Hard to believe he's been gone so long already--and that in about a year and a half, I will be the age he was when he died.  I am not ready to be dead yet--there are so many things I want to do.

He did have a lot of good adventures in his life--he went on lots of trips and even got to Hawaii.  He never saw any part of Europe, but I don't know that he had any burning desire to go there, either.

Last night I read my book until I was done with it...I think I finished at about 4:30 am.  I didn't intend to stay up all night reading, but I did.  Then I set my alarm for 10:30--turned it off when it went off, and slept till 1 pm.

Yeah.  Bad me.

When I did get up, I sorted laundry and got the whites going.  I played the Scrabble game on Facebook.  I have several games going--and there is something wrong with that site (or my computer) because it freezes and works very slowly.  Sometimes I have to refresh to get it to straighten out--and sometimes I have to completely restart my computer.  It is a waste of time, and more frustrating than fun when it does that.

I got a little bit of stuff put away.  Not a lot.  The table in my room is looking better.  I need to sort through these bags of stuff--there are a few books, a few notebooks, and a lot of file folders.  I really need  another file cabinet with wheels that can hold hanging file folders.  I do not know where in the HELL I will put it, but I sure do need it.  I may buy one when my first unemployment check comes in.  Even if I have to keep it in the bathroom, at least I will have a place to put all these files.

Mom came downstairs about 5 pm.  She wanted to watch Sweet Home Alabama.   I didn't mind watching it with her.  During the movie, I worked on my last Valentine dress for my Chryssie doll.  It is a longer one with puffy sleeves.  It has a red ribbon belt, but it still seems to need something.  I am not sure what.  Maybe a medium sized white heart button sewed on like a belt buckle.  I'll have to see what I have and experiment.  Once the trimmings are done, all the clothes I had cut out for her will be sewn.

I am thinking that I will use the witch costume pattern that I got from the yahoo Chrysalis group next.  I have some really pretty black silky fabric that has silver stars printed all over it.  They are a bit holographic as well.  I also have plain black silky material.  I haven't decided yet whether I should make the whole outfit out of the starred fabric, or whether I should make  the dress of the plain black and make her an amazing cape with a hood out of the star material.  I do not have a pattern for that, but I think I can work that out on my own.  I wish I had some very fine black net--I'd like to make the hat out of that starred fabric and then attach a little black net veil to come down over her face.  I think that would be swank.

I have a very cute Asian pattern fat quarter.  It is red with black stylized Asian writing on it.  I think it would be enough to make her a little tunic...then I could make her a pair of black capris to wear under it.    I also have a very nice piece of fabric with a black background and a thick design of shamrocks on it.  I think I can make up a pattern similar to this by altering and enlarging a few patterns I already have:

This is cute  too, and probably more appropriate for a little girl.

I will try to get some pictures up tomorrow of the three little Valentine fabric dresses if I get them finished.  Tomorrow, I will cut out a couple more outfits.

Anyhow, after we watched the movie, Mom watched an old episode of Lawrence Welk.  They have him on at 6 pm every Saturday night.  This one was so old that it was in black and white!

Shortly  after that was over, Lily and Jerry and my cousin Roger stopped in on their way home from the state fair.  We visited for a while...maybe an hour or so.  Then they left and Mom and I watched Annie, which just happened to come on TV.  I love  that movie.  It almost always makes me cry when all those little girls in the orphanage are singing about the moms and dads they hope will come and get them some day...breaks my heart.  Makes me want to run out to the nearest orphanage and adopt every one of them.  Of course, they don't really have orphanages any more...kids go to foster homes.

I didn't get much to eat today...Mom made popcorn while we were watching Sweet Home Alabama.   I had a few peanut butter M&Ms left in a bag that's been laying around here since before I moved in with Mom.  I finished them off.  Tomorrow I have to get some real food.

When Mom goes to church, I will go upstairs and take a bath, then maybe I will poach myself a couple of eggs.  I love poached eggs!

I guess that's about it for me.  It was sort of a dull day.  I looked up to see what movies were on in Owatonna,  but there wasn't anything that really gripped my fancy.

I hope that unemployment comes soon.  I need cat litter.  I also need some baking soda cat box deoderizer.  It really hopes to absorb some of the kitty "fragrance" that occasionally permeates their boxes.

I'm just trying to get through each day and not knuckle under  to despair.  It's hard as I don't have anything to look forward to...I'm sleeping a lot still because I don't want to face reality.  I feel like I am in exile.

I had trouble sleeping last night again--trouble falling asleep and trouble staying asleep.

I turned on the computer a couple of times to play bubblepop on facebook and to make a few smart ass comments on the facebook entries of my former students and my nieces and nephews. LOL.

I finally gave up and got up at about 6:30 am. I worked on my environment--washed the plastic cat place mat and my own cat dish. I cleaned up and cleared out the area between the bed and the closet. I reorganized all the drawers in my bedside table. I need to find an empty pencil box (I'm sure I have several somewhere) to keep all the little things in the top drawer in. Things like small tubes of hand lotion, lip balms, cortaid, rolaids, aspirin, pens, scissors, and so on. The drawer would stay neater if all this stuff was corraled in a container.

Most of the area around the desk on the floor is cleaned up and organized as well. The desk itself is still a freaking disaster. I may take everything off the desk, throw it in a laundry basket, and organize it on my bed where I can spread it out a bit.

I put my other little blue painted peach crate shelf in the bathroom where I placed extra toilet paper, soap, and candles. In the tall shelf on the bottom, I intend to put Chlorox Clean-Up spray, liquid, and wipes and a can of lysol. There is probably room for a few other things as well.

I kept busy all morning putting things away. I also read the book I've been working on a bit this morning.

I went to Owatonna to meet Ingrid at the movie theater shortly after noon. We saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I thought it was pretty good. John Lithgrow was the father of the scientist working on a cure for alzheimers. The kid who played Spiderman's friend Harry was the young scientist, and the kid who played Draco Malfoy was the sadistic little prick who worked for the Ape shelter.

The did an excellent job of portraying Cesar, the "smart" ape. It was almost heart breaking in some parts.

I enjoyed it quite a lot.

Afterwards we went to Perkins for something to eat. She had a piece of French Silk pie and coffee. I had some sort of fancy pancake wrapped around some vanilla pudding like substance. It came with scrambled eggs and hash browns and two link sausages.

It was good, but I don't think I would ever order it again.

Mom was very upset that I had given my food processor and bread maker to Ingrid...she wanted me to get them back. It was embarrassing to ask her for them back again, but she understood and said she had no problem with it.

I felt bad about the whole thing, but Mom was adament about getting them back. My mom places value on some of the oddest things. Like my towels. I don't really give a shit about my towels because they are just towels. I'd rather have that storage space for fabric or dolls or doll accessories....but mom was just intent on my keeping all my towels.

After Perkins, I went to Walmart where I bought some food I could keep downstairs in the refrigerator so that I will not go hungry as I have had to a few times since moving in here. I bought a loaf of bread, some butter, peanut butter and raspberry jam. I had a peanutbutter and jam sandwich for supper tonight.

I also bought some yogurt, some tapioca pudding packets, and a carton of toaster strudels.

I also bought a roast beef and potatoes, carrots, and onions, which I will bake tomorrow while mom is at church.

That will produce enough leftovers to keep us well fed for most of the week as well.

I also bought a new pill caddy as my old one has a broken compartment. I don't like the pills spilling out. This new one is a step up--hopefully it will work satisfactorily.

As soon as I got home, I carried in two bags of groceries and picked up mom. We went to Jack and Kari's house to feed, water, and love their cats.

That little Milo is a caution. LOL

I finished reading Outlander tonight. It was an enjoyable read.

Tomorrow I will begin reading Like Water for Elephants. My sister in law said it was poignant and yet also made her laugh out loud as she read it.

Not much else new. I am hoping to geta ton of stuff done tomorrow.

I haven't really felt much like posting since I found out Dave had passed away.  All I can think about is how I promised him I was going to stay in better touch with him, and how I just kept putting off calling him because  I was "too busy."

Now it is too late and there is nothing I can do about it.

Sigh.

Stewey was snoozing one day, and I couldn't resist putting all of my stuffed kitties around him.  He looks soooo cute.

Here is my handsome young nephew Erik.  This was taken at hisgraduation party.  I can't believe my little  punkin is graduated from high school.  These guys grew up way too fast.

:(

Here is Joni's new Siamese kitten, Cricket.  Cricket is hell on wheels, but very adorable.  She enjoys snuggling with me for some reason.  She must be catching the "kitty-mama" vibe I am currently projecting.

After the graduation party, Kim and Mom and I went to see the chick-flick The Proposal.  It was short on plot and believability, but strong on cuteness.  I enjoyed it.  Mindlessly.

After the movie, as we were pulling out of the theater parking area, we caught a glimpse of a hot air balloon in the distance.  In a fit of silliness, we decided to chase it down, and I documented the progress we had with my digital camera.

You can see the balloon above the tree tops just to the left of the middle of the picture.

Here it is viewed from the parking lot of he farm store across the street from the drug store on Rose Street.

Another shot from the same parking lot.

Here is a view of the balloon over a side street--I think it was Willow.

This was by the ravine by Joni's old house, on Rose Street.  The balloon was definitely descending.  We pulled over to look at it and take pictures, and pretty soon a whole bunch of people were also pulled over watching.

Here it is lowering over the trees.

You can see the guy in the basket pretty clearly now.

A really nice picture of the balloon descending.

And there it is settling down into the trees.

This one is a little fuzzy, but you can sort of see the people climbing out of it.

It is surprising how big these things are when they are on the ground.

And that concludes my photo essay of the hot air balloon chase.

And now for some more kitten pictures.

Stewey and Peaches.  So sweet and cuddly.  Peaches is even now snuggled right up against my leg, snoozing.  She and Tyger Lilly have their little arms wrapped around each other's necks.

They are the sweetest little kitties EVAH.

Here the three of them are in my bed, waiting for me to finish getting dressed so that I could give them their treats.

Stewart in one of his classic completely blissed out poses.

One of my doll collecting associates was thinning out her massive collection, didn't want this little girl any more, and offered her to me.  She is so precious.  Her face is soooo sweet.  I am going to call her Sachi, which means "Child of Bliss" in Japanese.

Here is another victim of a culling expedition.  I had waffled about getting this doll when she first came out but decided against it sinceI already had the straight haired version--but when my dolly pal decided to give her away...well, I couldn't resist.  I am either going to call her Adele or Nimue.  She reminds me of Winona Ryder a little.

Last Saturday, Kim and I met Jack, Kari, and Caleb at the theater in Owatonna to see the movie "Transformers 2."   I brought Viktor and Edgar along--they seemed to enjoy the movie.  :D

Kim made sure that they had refreshments.  LOL

When we got home, the boys discussed the movie in detail.

Edgar admits that he found the mean robots a little scary.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Oh, gosh...there were soooo many that I liked.  it would have to be Mary Martin's version of Peter Pan.  I also liked the Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella with Leslie Anne Downs as Cinderella.

No, they are not my favorite movies now.  I still enjoy them, though.

"Hump Day"

We are halfway through the week already--wow.  Time is going fast.  It won't be long before this quarter is DONE, and that will end the first half of the school year.  It is hard to comprehend.

Time is going too danged fast.  I'm going to lose some really good kids (via graduation, which is a good way to lose them, I guess) this year, and my heart is already starting to ache for them....

I will survive.  But I will miss my babies.

Sigh

Well, I got a lot of crap done at school today.  My whole desk was covered with an assortment of shit--papers, stuff needing to be filed, stuff needing to be corrected, and just a variety of crap.  While the kids worked on their assignments, I sorted through all that crap and clutter on my desk.  I got all but a small pile of stuff dealt with.  I should be able to deal with the rest of it tomorrow, even though I will be stuck doing breakfast, break, and lunch.  It isn't really hard to do this, and I enjoy bs-ing with the kids, but it hurts my knee (and my back BECAUSE OF my knee) to stand for so long.

After school tomorrow I have to meet with Jay and Robin for the mid-year English department evaluations.  Robin is not really certified to teach English.  Her certification is in Reading.  There are times when I really wish there was another certified English teacher on staff so we could brainstorm some classes to offer and ways to improve writing skills. .  But, mostly things go okay.

Because it is Wednesday, the kids got released just before noon.  The teachers cae together in the board room for the Wednesday meeting.  It went well--thing progressed quickly and we were done by 2:00 or so.  I looked up the website for Cinemagic and discovered that The Day the Earth Stood Still was on at 2:40.

I have been wanting to see that movie since I heard it was being made, even though I expected it to fall far short of the original.  Well, it was not as good as the original, but it was far better than I expected;  So, I enjoyed it.

GORT was cool.  I'd love to have a defender of the universe like him.  LOL

well, I have a few pictures.

The first is a picture of my new bedspread.  I love how dainty and fresh it looks.

Next I have a couple of photos of Josue with DeAnn and Jim.  He was in too rapid of motion for me to catch his face either time, but he was in very rare form.  Busy as a bee.

Jim made a big bowl of popcorn, and Josue LOVES popcorn--though eventually most of it ended up on the floor.  LOL.

And my last picture is of the adorable red polka-dot shirt I made for Dave Kelley's granddaughter.  She gets the doll modeling it as well.  I finished off a pair of striped bib overalls to go with it--but I have to sew on snaps and  buttons for the straps.

That's it for tonight.  I keep dozing off as I am typing, and that is NOT a good thing.
