Setting up for Lucas's Party
Jun. 20th, 2012 12:03 amThe food for the party was awesome. Mom made potato salad. Kim bought both white and wheat buns. She bought pulled chicken from HyVee and made sloppy joes herself. She bought Bush's Baked Beans and three or four different kinds of chips.
Then she served the cake which she had made at HyVee and bars. I made cherry bars, oatmeal bars, and seven layers of heaven bars. Mom made pumpkin bars, and Kari made scotcheroos.
Little Valerie made her Japanese shortcake.
There was a bucket of ice and bottled water, coffee, and a rootbeer keg for beverages.
It was a lovely party--he had a nice turnout.

Date: 2012-06-20 05:46 am (UTC)Just goes to show with some planning you can throw a really nice party on a budget.
If we were doing it my sister would make the cakes and my Mom and I would probably do lasagna as it's easy to make in advance and freeze. Add a salad and you're done.
When we do outdoors like 4th of July or Labor Day it's burgers, hot dogs, chicken and brats on the grill.
I had no idea they can do rootbeer kegs. I thought that was only for regular beer. That is so cool.

Date: 2012-06-21 04:20 am (UTC)Rootbeer kegs are pretty popular here. Lots of weddings and proms and parties like this have them. The root beer is 1919 Rootbeer and it is very good. I've been drinking diet soda for so many years that it tastes like syrup to me if I have more than a small cupfull.
