Well, Matt Damon gave a very teacher supportive voice to what all we teachers have known forever and a day. Standardized tests measure nothing. I like what he said about tenure also--upon hitting tenure, teachers do NOT turn off their energy and sit and read newspapers all day long.

We are teachers because we love to teach and we love our subject areas. We love to share our passion for our subject area with the young people we work with.

Although the state and federal government has been doing its best to grind the joy of teaching out of us for many years now....

Any how, Thanks to you, Matt Damon.

Not much going on in my life today--didn't get much done in my organizing and putting stuff away.

This morning, mom and I went to Owatonna where we ran a few errands. I had written out a few bills when I got up today. The first stop we made was at Verizon where I paid my phone bill for last month and this month. Then we swung by the post office where I dropped the rest of my bills in the drive through mailbox.

From there we went to my sister Kim's house to drop off the legs to the couch Tammy had brought down for her yesterday.

She was doing daycare, so we couldn't visit her properly.

We went on to Walmart where I bought bottled water, another case of Diet Coke, since the helpers yesterday were pretty hard on it, a bag of regular (not diet) cat food as my cats do not like the other stuff, a large container of laundry soap, some bread, some red licorice, and a couple bags of Bliss chocolates.

Oh, and I bought an adorable toy kitten for my niece's birthday, which is coming up quickly.

We were going to get some lunch at Appleby's, but the parking lot was packed, so we decided to go through the Jimmy John's drive through instead. I love Jimmy Jones. I had a hunter's club with extra dijon and no lettuce and mom had the Italian club. I like that too, but the onions in it give me indigestion.

Mom went to Jack and Kari's house to baby sit Cora while Kari and Caleb went to Owatonna to run errands and get Kari's hair cut.

I stayed home to work on the room, but I ended up taking a nap with my kitties. We had a nice snuggle fest.

Jack called and invited me for supper, so I put my clothes back on. I had put on my pjs because I was too hot. I brought part of Cora's birthday present--a cute little outfit mom bought her--so she could wear it on their vacation up north.

We had sandwiches, fresh pineapple, and corn on the cob for supper. Yummy.

Kari's friend Tina dropped off a book she had borrowed from Kari, and I looked at it. I don't know if it will be one I will enjoy that much as it seems to be just a step above a full-blown bodice ripper...but, it does involve some time travel and ghosts, so I may like it. It is set in Scotland. The title is Outlander .

The other book she lent me is Like Water for Elephants . I hear that is a really good book. I am looking forward to reading it.

That's about it for today.

No great thoughts or anything.

Real Fall has arrived.

I need to be out and about with my camera documenting the fallness going on around here.

Today was a very gloomy day--unenthusiastic rain piddling down and grayness everywhere.

It would have been a great day to sleep till about 10:30 am, then get up and bake chocolate chip cookies.  Then take a baggie of still warm cookies upstairs for a nice long nap and kittie snuggle fest till about 5 pm.  Get up and wander around aimlessly for a while--perhaps eat a cold meatloaf sandwich--watch NCIS's season premiere--then back to bed by 9 pm.

Saw my therapist today--she's a wonderful person, but she really isn't helping me  much.

Gave her all the money on my health savings account card.

About $700.

Got gas on the way home.  My poor car baby's belly button was rubbing against its backbone.

I stopped at Daniels and had eggs for supper.  Nothing else appealed to me on the menu.

Dropped off my water bill at city hall.  Got my mail.  Dropped off the long letter I wrote to the Postmistress in response to her notification.  (Long story.  Don't have the fortitude to relate it at this time/)

Came home.

Put some cans of diet coke in the fridge.  Spanked Stewart for leaping into the refrigerator and tunneling his way to the back.  Twice.  (Gave him two little swats on the hind end--don't think he even noticed.)

Took my pills.  Watched NCIS season premiere.  Was a little let down.

Glad that Ziva was rescued though.

Turned off the TV.

Now writing this quick little post without many subjects in my sentences.

Soon, with luck, I will be sleeping.

I have a sore throat and a cough and I am very tired.  My knees are very achy today--I assume because of the damp weather.

That's about it.

Maybe something more exciting will happen tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to my sister Kim.  I tried to call her tonight to wish her a happy birthday, but there the answering machine picked up.  I sang to her and wished her a happy birthday.  Perhaps her husband and sons took her out to eat on her birthday.  Miracles do happen.

I felt so much better today than yesterday that there is just no comparison.

School went okay.  My desk was a disaster, and I putzed away at it when I had a moment free throughout the day.  It doesn't look too bad now, but it doesn't look that great either.

On my way home from school, I stopped at the Carriage House Animal Hospital and picked up Komet's ashes.  The office cat, Benjamin, rushed over to the counter and leapt up to greet me.  What a handsome boy he is!  A pale silvery gray with big green eyes and white "mascara" around his eyes.  He showered me with love and affection and was overjoyed to have my affection lavished on him in return.  I needed a kitty fix today.

My little girl is back home again--as ashes in a tiny metal box.    I have been torturing myself tonight, looking at all my pictures of her.  She was such a pretty girl.  She contorted herself in such odd positions.  There was always love and often mischief in her eyes.

I stopped at the post office before I came home.  My order from Woman Within was in.  I got a pale blue jacket and two thermal long-sleeved tee shirts--one lilac colored, and the other a minty green.  I will wear one of them to school tomorrow.  My long coat was not in the package.  *pout*

I was on the phone with either Theresamae or Lisa all evening.  When I got upstairs, I made a cool pipe cleaner bee.  The glue holding on his eyes is drying right now.  I am pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I have to get some pictures of these critters.

I'm having way too much fun with them.

That's about it for me tonight.  I hoped to finish the pink gingham dress I started last night, but I'm tired and I don't feel much like doing anything right now.

We'll see, I guess.

Last night before I turned out the lights I was so tired that I was literally falling asleep with my head on the keyboard.  I was DREAMING, even.

So, why is it that the minute I turned out the lights and lay down to sleep, I was wide awake?  And continued to be wide awake throughout most of the night?

That is SO IRRITATING.

So now, I am not rested and I feel like crap.

Bleah.

Anyhow--I have to get dressed and get going.  I have about a million errands to run.

As follows:

  • *shudder* go to post office; mail package to South Africa; get mail.
  • go to Byron; get cat food
  • go to Rochester; get magnetic baby doll for caleb; get books for on-line class at Barnes and Noble.
  • call in prescription for drugs; pick them up on way home.

After that, I need to come home and work on the upstairs some more.  I made significant progress yesterday, but there is still much more to be done.

I really do NOT want to go anywhere today, but the cat is almost out of food and she has to eat.

How else will she pursue her hobby of vomitting all over everything if she has nothing in her tummy?

Heh.
