Erik's Mystical Adventure.
Nov. 28th, 2008 12:56 pmI saw my first unexplainable phenomenon when I was very young--the first I remember seeing was when I was in first or second grade. I used to lay in my bunk bed and watch purplish looking, malformed balls of light drift slowly up the open staircase that I could see through my bedroom door. They undulated and rustled and made a discordant "tinkling" noise as they drifted. When they got to the landing almost at the top of the stairs, they turned left, made an odd *popping* noise--like the sound your mouth makes when you put your finger in the corner and flip it outward--and vanished. I also once saw a skeleton walk up the stairs, turn to the left at the landing, and disappear. My sister Joni, who is four years younger than me (and Erik's mom), saw a "man" made entirely of twinkling lights standing at the side of her bed. She always referred to him as "the starman."
Everyone in my immediate family has had significant paranormal experiences.
Well, Erik had his first significant experience recently.
He took pictures with his cell phone, and my sister said you could see the phenomenon in the pictures, but he had downloaded them onto his computer and did not have them on his phone at Thanksgiving yesterday. He did, however, have his notebook in which he had drawn what he saw as soon as he was able to. Here are the pictures of what he saw.
I asked him where he was and what he was doing when he saw these things. He said he was in Rice Lake State park, sitting next to the fire. He said he was alone when he saw these things, though there were other people around.

He said he saw this thing walking around in the trees--it had gray skin and light gray hair on its body. He said he thought these things were "changlings."

'
He saw this thing in a tree. He said it looked like a skull head but not quite.

He saw this large figure shambling through the trees. I asked him if it was a Saskwatch. He said maybe. LOL.

He said this one was the creepiest. It was in the long dead grass. He said it was grinning at him--that it's teeth were not pointed (I asked). He also said it had one "normal" eye and just a blank black eye on the other side. We did some searching on line to see if we could find anything that looked like these things, but we had no luck.
He was not drinking or taking any kind of hallucinagenic drugs when he saw these things.
Oh, and one of them--I think the first--was on the other side of the lake and was making gestures at him that seemed to be asking him to come over there to it. "It was trying to lure me into the woods," he said. "I wasn't going! I'm not crazy!"
He did NOT see this. LOL. This was just another picture in his notebook that I thought was cute. So, I took a picture of it. This is what he does in his chemistry class aparently.
LOL.
The next is my favorite.
Note the giant squid attacking the trawler which is about to be devoured by the Great White Shark.
heh heh.
Here are my 8 year old nephew Caleb and Erik, the recent inductee into our family hall of oddities. I don't know why Caleb looks so bug eyed. LOL. I love his shirt.
And here they are again. This time Caleb appears to be doing his combo "Palin/McCain" imitation. (Retarded expression--Palin--and thumbs up--McCain.)
Isn't Erik a handsome boy? I am prejudiced, of course, but I think my little nephews and nieces are all just adorable.
Here is Caleb with his "creation." My mom has a rolling cart of art and craft supplies that the kids like to play with. I thought his little creature was pretty cute.
Here is another closer shot of the critter.
My nephews and nieces are all odd and creative. I like that.
Here is my sister Tammy (in the middle) and her husband Bert and her daughter Sadie and her goofy little dog, Coconut. She named him Coconut because when he was a puppy, his fur looked just like toasted coconut. LOL. He is a sweet little dog.
Coconut wasn't looking at the camera so we had to take another shot.
Isn't Sadie Lou a beautiful girl?
And here is my sister Kim and her two sons. Kyle ( on the left) graduated from high school last spring. Lucas (in red) is in 9th grade this year. He and Sadie Lou are the same age.
She loves her two little monkey boys more than life itself. They are also handsome and creative young lads.
They helped me make the "pilgrim hat" cookies that fionnabhar posted about the other day. I bought two packages of the striped fudge cookies and two packages of peanut butter cups, a can of cream cheese vanilla frosting, and a container of flower shaped sprinkles. I got those for the buckles because there was no yellow tubes of frosting to make the buckles. I bought something in a tube, but the tube was so large there was no way that it could be used to make the hat band. After a little experimentation, we discovered that if we put a big glob of frosting on the bottoms of the peanut butter cups and pressed them down, we could make a little white goosh out from underneath, and it looked good as a hat band. The boys got a little carried away with the frosting on some of the cookies, but they all tasted good anyhow. LOL.
Here is a picture of one of the pilgrim hat cookies.
I think they are just darling. And they were certainly a hit at the feast.
