Monday's Business
Apr. 24th, 2007 09:43 amI always seem to grab on to a Monday to kick myself into gear again.
Yesterday, I tried to get totally back on track. I DRASTICALLY reduced my daily checklist--It went from a page long to about half a page. That makes it a lot less intimidating and a lot more doable. Yesterday, I got all but three things done--I didn't correct anything at school. I didn't tidy my desk at school, and I didn't clean the litterbox at home.
I DID test my blood both in the morning and at night--and that is something I have totally gotten out of the habit of doing. And, since my blood sugar was 177 yesterday morning, I guess it is high time I started it up again. It was 121 in the evening before supper, so that was much more appropriate. This morning, it was 166--still high--but down 11 points. So, I'm calling it a victory.
I managed to type up a Disney Cinderella viewing guide to keep the kids focused on the video in Children's Lit. Now I have to do one for the Rogers and Hammerstein one, which will be harder since I only have it on VHS. I like it when I can play the dvd right in my computer with the worksheet open in another window. I can just pause the dvd when I need to finish a question.
I don't even know if that Rogers and Hammerstein one is available on DVD. I'll have to check amazon, I guess.
Then, I'll have to do Ever After--which I DO have on DVD.
When we have viewed them all, I am going to have the kids write papers on how the "ideal woman" as represented by Cinderella has changed over the last few decades. Hopefully they are getting the idea that a stronger, smarter, more independent woman who kicks a little ass now and then is emerging as the ideal--as opposed to a gentle, obedient, subservient, docile creature who just sits and cries when someone treats her like shit.
We can hope, anyway.
I managed to REMEMER (thanks to Ashley Gransee and Chelles Davenport) to print out that adoption recommendation I had written for Jim and DeAnn sometime ago and have Susie notarize it for me. And I took it right over to their house after dropping Susie off last night so I wouldn't (a) forget it or (b) spill something nasty on it.
Ashley and Chelles were talking about women who kill their babies because they don't want them--and they were talking about how they should just give them up for adoption. The word "adoption" triggered my memory. Thank goodness.
Yesterday, I noticed that the side panels on the inside of my car doors looked really grungy. So, last night after school, I took my trusty bottle of 409 spray and a roll of paper towels home with me. After I ran my errands and got my mail, I sat in my driveway and cleaned my car for an hour. I scrubbed every inch of vinyl on the inside of the car AND I cleaned all the shit that had accumulated in it out. I got half a kitchen sized garbage bag full of crap out of it--especially from under the seats. I was astonished at how much crap could fit under there.
Under the front passenger seat, I found a bank statement and two pieces of junk mail from March of 2002. eek. I also found a bunch of easter candy--and I know it wasn't easter candy from THIS year, since I didn't take any home with me. Ewww....there was some really NASTY stuff under there too.
I didn't vacuum it out because I didn't have the hand vac available--but since I do not have to car pool with Susie today--I might take it through the Deluxe Car Wash tonight and have THEM clean it out good. I wish I knew where I could get the upholstry and the carpets cleaned. They are soooo filthy. I wonder if I could shampoo them myself with the rug doctor? It's something to think about--but I think I would hold off on that till a long weekend or summer so that the stuff would have plenty of time to dry out or air out.
When I got down with that, I made the oddest supper I've had in some time. I had a glob of 1% cottage cheese, about 2/3 cup of cantaloupe, leftovers of that raw veggie and ranch dressing salad, and two enormous sliced up cherry tomatoes. And a glass of skim milk. And--before bed--I HAD to eat the last left over piece of cheesecake--and it was heartbreakingly delicious. Now, I'm done with sugar--except I MIGHT have a few chocolates in a candy dish that cannot be wasted. :P
I was pretty much done for after I did the dishes. I didn't have the energy to do much else. I chatted with a couple of friends on the IM, then I went to sleep.
It's that Cinderella time of year.

Date: 2007-04-25 01:16 am (UTC)I love my Cinderella unit for children's lit.
I'm always looking for new ways to make it better for the kids.

I've seen both - about equal for enjoyment, but I lean toward the Andrews version because she does the songs better. ;-)
