Jun. 15th, 2007 02:45 pmI'm sure you are DYING to know what I have been up to.
Last week was the final week of school--and it was a doozy, as they always are.
I was too busy and too tired to write anything.
Now, this week, I have been busy finishing up my inventories and stuff at school. Today, I finally checked out. However, I have a couple of large projects going forward at school.
I am cleaning out all my files and going through all my 3-ring unit binders again. I am really slashing and burning this summer.
Today, I typed up a couple of short stories which I will be using in the fall for my science fiction/fantasy course. One was "Men are Different," which is a super short little story, and the other is HEMEAC, which is one of my favorite science fiction short stories.
I need to find one or two more short stories about Robots so I can do a little mini robot unit in the SF/F class.
I have completely cleaned out two file drawers and am currently working on the big pile of Poetry files. I seem to be missing one of my 3-ring binders that I made for poetry, but I have ample crap to draw from if I decide to teach it again in the fall. I did not teach poetry this year. The kids have been bugging me for a poetry class again.
I intend to start the new school year 100% organized in my classroom.
My work at home has taken a back seat to school stuff for the last two weeks. I've been too tired to devote much time to the heavy cleaning of my house, so I have been working on the enormous stacks of doll clothes patterns I have. I'm organizing them.
In time, I will take a picture of what I am doing--I think it will make them much easier to use.
I started walking on Monday--I've been wanting to get back to walking for a long, long time. But, I have been too lazy, and quite frankly, too convinced that I would not be able to walk to the end of my block and back again. But apparently I have more ability than I thought I did. Yesterday I walked all the way down to City Hall and dropped off my water bill, then over to the post office, and back up the street and over to my own house again.
Now, that isn't much to someone who can walk for miles--but it is quite an accomplishment for me.
Today, I walked several blocks, even though it is ungodly humid, and I only got about 4 hours of sleep last night.
I walk at about 6 am. I walk while talking on the phone to my friend Theresa. She is also trying to get more exercise.
I've not been eating sweets and other unhealthy stuff either. I'm hoping that I can build up my stamina over the summer and get my blood sugar and cholesterol even lower than they are now.
And if I lose some weight--that's okay too.
My goal is to be able to walk out to my friend DeAnn's house in the country--I don't see myself doing it any time soon--but I think it is feasible. Maybe sometime in the fall. I don't know how far it is--I'm thinking a couple of miles.
I'm feeling pretty cocky about my improving level of physical fitness--one day soon, (like within a couple of years), I want to go to England and visit my little buddies over there--and I want to be able to WALK--not limp along like some old granny.
Well, it is nearly 3 pm and I am tired. It's time for me to hit the trail.
I'll try to update better and more regularly from now on.

You are lucky.
Date: 2007-06-16 12:13 am (UTC)Walking is good. You know what's good for walking? A dog. My Dad now walks every afternoon. Candy expects it. She has an internal clock that says "walkies" every day at 4:30. She isn't losing much weight (because he sneaks her treats every chance he gets) but he seems a lot healthier. That dog just worships him and he loves her to death. I sometimes thing if he had to decide between my Mom and the dog he'd choose the dog.
