My goal for this week is my bedroom.  I had it all cleaned up at one point, but it has become a devastating MESS again.  I've taken "Before" pictures, which I am posting up now.  I will put the "After" pictures up when they are taken.

This is a broad perspective of the area where you walk into my bedroom. The blue plastic container is the storage drawer system from Walmart that is full of my Barbie type dolls.

This is the stack of crap right inside my bedroom door.

This is on the south side of the dresser. It’s a stack of mostly craft stuff and boxes of doll clothes.

The other side of that little window area. Those boxes are doll stuff, craft stuff, and my box of compact music discs.

Here is the southwest corner of my bedroom. The window is leaking water into the room, which got absorbed into the wall paper and traveled up onto the walls. Jim and DeAnn were over one day and discovered the mildew--so they pulled it off. The black stuff is mildew. I have been planning on getting that scrubbed off for at least two weeks, but still haven’t done it.

This is the threshold to my closet. My suitcase is laying there along with my plastic zipper bag with my 2 changes of bed linens in it.

This is the little cube of space made by my window in the corner of my bedroom. There is a lot of stuff that I don’t know what ELSE to do with it jammed in there.

This is the inside of my closet--mainly, the closet floor. Those are my poor cabbage patch dolls lying there in a heap. Poor little things.

Between the bed and the closet.

These are two bookshelves, stacked together. I’ve put a lot of my dolls on there to display, but they are so cramped that they don’t display well, and don’t look nice. I have to find a better way--AND I want to thin out the herd so that I don’t have a bunch that don’t “speak” to me at all. I often get the urge to do that now, and put the cleaning aside, but I am fighting that urge.

I think I NEED to get the cleaning done first before I get obsessive about culling the Barbie herd.

This is over the side of my bed--stuff is always falling over.  Like my pillow.

These are the next two shelves down--the top one WAS, like, packed tight with dolls, but a lot of them went into the storage thing. It’s stuffed now, so those poor dollies are waiting their turn--I have to buy another one at Walmart--they are only about $14.00, but I am pretty broke at the moment.

This is on the east wall. There are two bookshelves side by side which have been stuffed full of dolls on the tops and on the first shelves. The next two shelves contain a lot of my books, mangas, dvds video games, and books on tape. I’ve already cleared a lot of the dolls out and put them in a plastic 3-drawer storage container on wheels until I have time to sort them out.

This is just a jumble of dolls waiting to be packed away.  Most of these are keepers.

This is on the opposite side of my bed, near the east window. Stuff falls over the edge of my bed, and there it stays until I have the ambition to get it up--which could take weeks or months….or years….or decades….

My bed. The clothes laying on the corner were put on hangers this morning--but that other crap has been on the bed for two weeks--including all night while I am sleeping in the bed. I’ve allowed myself a tiny corridor to sleep in, and that’s it.

This is the nasty little nest next to my bed, by my nightstand. I don’t know WHAT the bath brush is doing there….

This week, I am going to work exclusively on my bedroom (except for the normal dishes and cat litter boxes and so on) until it is done.

I cannot believe how much my bedroom looks like yours. Except for the dolls. Or used to. I spent the week cleaning it. But I'm going to have to do something about the closet. Not all of the clothes will fit. And some of the clothes no longer fit me. Some will have to go up in the attic. And some in the attic need to go away. Either give them to charity or sell them on eBay.

Of course the fun never stops. My sewing room, library, dining room and living room also look like your bedroom...except for the dolls. I don't have storage and am not buying any. So I'm slowly selling on eBay, tossing or storing in the attic. The weather just turned hot so it will be slow going.

The appraiser came today to measure and take pictures of my dirty house. They're trained to look beyond that. Right? All I can say is the appraisal better be good for what I paid. $400!?! But if I get the home equity loan I'm hoping for I'm replacing my driveway (which should have been done in 1987 when I moved in) and putting Photovoltaic panels on my roof. That will zero out my electrical usage for the year. I'll owe the gas and electric company $2.50 per month to "rent" their meter. And I'll probably still have to pay for gas. Gas used to be cheaper. But that's going up too and it will soon peak and be in short supply just like gasoline is. But I'll be ready. I'll just get electric appliances and put a few more panels on the roof. Bwa ha ha!. I'll get a rebate back on the installation as there are both Federal and State incentives. And the discount I get from the contractor will pay for the appraisal.

You really do need to cull the herd. I don't have any advice. I'm a multitasking ADHD cleaner. I'll start, then do something else, then come back, then something else. It eventually all gets done. But I'd be culling dolls while I was cleaning, then stop to do the closet, then go back to the dolls, then clean some more.

Living room. I'm looking through old VHS tapes before I toss them, cleaning, putting away stuff, taking pictures of stuff to sell on eBay, washing dishes in the kitchen, taking boxes up in the attic, then going back to do one of the previous. I have to sit and rest every once in a while because of my back.

How many bedrooms do you have? Did you finish that other room? Sewing room? Seems to me some of the stuff in your bedroom really belongs in that sewing room. Is there a guest room? How often do guests come over? I'd make that a doll display room to get rid of the doll overflow.

My guest room also triples as the sewing room and the computer room. No way anyone can sleep over right now as the bed is full of stacks of material. There is also a stack of children's picture books, a plastic bin of electronics equipment. Paper and discs for the computer, a sewing card table, a chess table that needs repair before I put it in the attic, boxes of "stuff" to go up in the attic. The library doubles as a display space for my Steiffs. But I can't put all of them on display at the same time. Some are up in the attic. The bunnies come down for Easter. Some of the Teddys for Christmas. Etc. I rotate them.

I'll bet your dream is my dream. I want my house clean enough so that I can easily maintain it. And I want it to look like a magazine or those shows on TV where it looks like it's ready to sell. Open House Ready. You'll know when it happens. I'll update my website and let you know.

My mother's house looks like this all of the time. Of course, she and my Dad have been retired for 15 years. What else does she have to do?
