I have been through a hellacious ordeal this morning--

My car was buried under a foot of snow that was hard as a brick.  And underneath the brick hard snow was at least an inch of diamond hard ice.  I had to get a shovel, chop the snow into chunks, and push it off one chunk at a time.  It was hell to get the door open, but I did--and I started up the car to melt the inch thick diamond hard ice.

I carried my garbage to the curb and put my school stuff into the car and let it run for a while(about 15 minutes) .  When I went back out, I scraped the slushy slop off of the windows and attempted to back out of my parking spot.  I had parked up on the lawn next to the steps so that whoever cleaned out my driveway could get a clear swoop.  Brad Paulson came around last night--I had called and left a message on Susan's machine, voicing my concerns about the driveway.  Brad came over with his big truck later and plowed me a sizable pathway.

However, I wasn't sure what the best way to get out was--so I backed straight up thinking I could turn and wiggle back and forth until my car was facing the street.  Well, my car fell into the mud hole that it had dug on that really wet day--the mud hole that I had to wait till the next morning when the ground was hardened up again to get out of.

No matter what I did, I couldn't get out.

Finally, I went back in the house and called school.  I told Jay what was going on and that I would be here as quickly as I could.  Then I called Jim Engvall, who came over to help me.

I would have been completely screwed if Jim hadn't come to lend his expertise AND his muscles.

I won't even go into how hard he worked or how difficult it was to get the damn car out.  But we finally did.

I offered him $20 for doing it, but he refused to accept it--so I think I'm going to get him a case of beer and a meat lover's pizza at Papa Murphy's.  If I'd had to call the tow truck, I'd have had to pay at least $50.00.

Then, highway 56 was goddawful.  The snow and ice packed on it was about 6 inches thick--except for the gigantic holes that went through the ice to the pavement.  It was a horrible mess.  I could only go about 15 miles per hour.

Then, 14 was pretty good--but there were random patches of glare ice or heavily packed snow.  By the time I got to Byron, I was PARCHED and hacking, so I stopped at Kwik Trip for a bottle of pop and a breakfast muffin, since I hadn't eaten breakfast.  I had put a package of instant oatmeal and a bowl in my book bag to eat when I got to school.  Since I was on the frontage road, I stopped at the vet clinic and picked up the bag of cat food I was gonna pick up on the way home.  Komet is almost out of food.

Anyhow, I got to school at the middle of 2nd hour, and it was all mostly good.

I'm completely exhausted, however.  I feel like I need to go to bed!  My morning was horrible and exhausting.

Poor Jim--I feel guilty about him working so hard.

Tonight, when I get home, I'm not taking the chance on getting stuck in my driveway again.  I'm parking on the road.

Gah!
