Life--what a concept
Mar. 8th, 2007 01:11 pmMy life has been busy and crazy, as usual.
I have wanted to update again for a long time--but just didn't seem to have the time or the energy to post.
Now I am way behind again.
Last week was particularly interesting--we had a snow day on Monday due to a blizzard that ripped through over the weekend. Mom was able to get up to the airport to fly out for her cruise.
We went to school on Tuesday, and it was a normal day--the only one of the week, as it turns out. On Tuesday and Wednesday I was able to get all of my correcting done and make printouts for the faculty meeting on Wednesday. We discussed at the Wednesday meeting the seconde blizzard that was supposed to come roaring through starting Wednesday night. We all left giggling, "See you next week."
Well, later in the evening on Wednesday night, Susan called me and told me school had already been cancelled for Thursday. I looked at the KROC website where they list the school closings, and there were TONS of schools already closed, all over the area.
I was happy, since I intended to do a bunch of cleaning. This did not happen. I can't recall if it was because I was on the phone all day or because I was on IM all day. Either way, I was annoyed with myself for not just ignoring the phone and the computer and doing what I needed to do.
I had wanted to do a little sewing too--finishing up the swaps that I have signed up for.
On Thursday night, the call came again--school cancelled for Friday as well. Yay!! I still didn't get as much as I wanted to get done in the house, and once again, it was no one's fault but my own. I need to just NOT ANSWER the phone and NOT TURN ON the computer.
Then there was Saturday--I did a lot of laundry and also some cleaning. I baked Grandma's oatmeal bars for the retreat.
I frosted the bars on Sunday morning. Then, Ingrid called. I was a little stir crazy, so we decided we would go to the movie Ghost Rider, which was pretty good. When I got home again, I cut the bars into squares and put them into one of my plastic shoe boxes with the handle on the lid. I figured that would be easy to carry.
DeAnn called me with the news that her mother's husband passed away. That was kind of shocking. It was very hard on her mom as this was the second husband she lost due to a heart attack. The circumstances were quite different, but still....
Before I went to bed, I packed my suitcase, made sure my pills and stuff were in there, and put together a little package of fabric and sewing notions so that I would have something to entertain myself with in the evening.
I drove to Owatonna early--since I wanted to get my stuff into my room and unload my car before the workshop started at 9. The road was mostly good--I took the back way to the north, turning at the Meridan Township Hall--but there were a couple of really nasty spots. I made it just fine, though.
I didn't take any pictures of the hotel this time. I guess the thrill of staying in a hotel has worn thin. Ha ha.
Our retreat was at the Comfort Inn, which is right next to Cabella's near the Outlet Mall. I liked it so much better than the one at the Casino last year. All that smoke there gave me a migraine that lasted for two days. It was very quiet at the hotel. There was hardly anyone else there.
We made some really good progress on our goals that first day. I feel really good about what my committee did. (I am on the curriculum committee). We had lunch at Timberlodge. The food was nothing special, and the waitress was an idiot. She didn't ever bring Jay anything to eat--and still charged him for the meal, after he had to sit there and watch everyone else eat. They did make him something to take out. BUT THEY CHARGED HIM, which I think was ridiculous.
After the meetings,I went to my room for a while. I cut out a few outfits from the fabric I'd brought and sewed up a little pair of lace trimmed satin undies for Marley. I have a little camisole cut out too, but I didn't get that sewed. I did just one of the arm holes. That's it.
While I was doing that, I watched some HGTV--but after a while I decided I had to go and spend some time with the rest of the faculty.
