Writer's Block: News development

I think I was in second grade...maybe third...when we were all marched to the cafeteria where a bizarre looking TV sat on a library cart. We all watched John Glen walk in space.
That's the first time I can recall paying attention to a news broadcast.
The next time would have been the Kennedy assassination. I remember that i was reading Little Women at that time, and I was crying over Beth's death and the President's death at the same moment.

It looked sort of like this, but the base was different. And it had a sort of looped antenna on the top. It looked like something alien to me.
