September 3

I spent a very long time yesterday catching up with my DW entries. I did not order anything from Lerbergs this week. I didn’t need anything particular. The Schwans man did stop. I got a bag of Brussels sprouts, some frozen ribs, and a box of sausage/egg/cheese breakfast biscuits.
It rained all night last night—just a gentle, steady rain. It rained off and on most of the day too. I had planned to take several bags of garbage and recycling out to the bins today, but it was so wet outside that I decided to wait until tomorrow. I don’t wear shoes unless I am going somewhere, but I do wear socks. I did not want to step outside and get my socks all wet and gross.
I watched some YouTube videos instead of TV last night as there was nothing worth watching on. I love those urban explorer videos of abandoned houses. Some of them are absolutely gorgeous. I cannot believe that they are just left to rot.
One of the houses was nothing special—it was an old farmhouse in the middle of the woods somewhere up in Canada. Chances are it was once a very prosperous farm. There were a lot of out buildings and the house was huge. Nothing fancy, but huge. It was pretty sound, structurally, but the paint was peeling off of everything on the inside. The barns were enormous. They must have had a huge herd of cattle and a lot of pigs. The barns were also very well organized for keeping animals. There was a lot of old equipment abandoned there as well. One old seeder that had only two seed bowls and all metal wheels. It looked like it might even have been pulled by horses. There were 3-4 ancient snow mobiles in one of the out buildings.
The coolest thing about the barn was that it had a concrete floor which was covered with the paw prints of cats, chickens, and a dog who had apparently walked across the concrete before it set. Those little critters have probably been dead for 80 years, but they left their mark behind for posterity.
I hope when the people abandoned the property that they took the cats and other animals with them. Or at least found them new homes.
