After school on Friday, I went to the UPS store to return the doll that arrived at my house broken. It will be replaced, and they sent me a shipping label to pay for the return. After that, I went to JoAnne fabrics to get things set right regarding them charging me for 5 yards of fabric as opposed to the .5 yard I actually took home. I think they refunded me the entire amount, so yay.
However, they were pricks in that I picked out some stuff (mostly buttons and snaps), thinking that I would just use up the refund in merchandise. Well, the cashier told me I had to pay for my current purchase first, then we would deal with the refund.
Then, after she had rung it all up, she told me I had to write out a check for some reason (she had one, I just don't remember it). So, I did. Then she put the refund on a gift card. Well, fuck a chip. If I had known that was the way it was going to work, I would have got the damned thing refunded FIRST, then picked out my buttons and shit.
Manipulative assholes.
On the way home, I got a fish burger and an ice tea at McDonalds. When I got home, I tossed most of my laundry down the steps intending to get it washed today (Saturday). I went to bed fairly early as I wanted to be up and out as early as possible to get groceries. On the way into Owatonna, I stopped to take some pictures (see earlier entries).
I go to Walmart in Owatonna because I can whiz around in their little electric cripple carts. I can do all my shopping and leave without being exhausted and in awful pain for the rest of the day. I didn't buy anything too exciting. A bag of cheetoes and a peanut butter egg were the two big fun purchases of the day.
Perkins was nearly deserted, so I stopped there and had eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes, and hot tea for breakfast. I didn't need to eat lunch after a breakfast like that.
On the way out of town, I went through the car wash and gave my car a good automatic washing. I wish I knew where I could get all the carpets and upholstry in my car cleaned. It needs it desperately.
When I got back to West Concord, I got my mail. There was quite a bit of it again. I have not sorted it out yet, but that is something I should do tomorrow. I also should get my tax crap organized so I can get that all dealt with.
When I got home, I put all my perishable groceries away, cleaned out the refrigerator as I did so, and then put away the clean dishes and did the dirty dishes. I had quite a bunch as I hadn't really done much dish washing this week. In the midst of that, I baked four chicken thighs in a combination of chicken broth, cream of chicken soup, and chopped onion, carrot and celery. Tomorrow I will turn that into a sort of "creamed chicken" to put over baking powder biscuits. That is one of my favorite things. I wish I had some frozen peas to add to it.
I sacked up some garbage and wiped down the countertops and stove top.
After that, I sort of pizzled out. I was tired and lacked ambition, so I went upstairs and lay down for a while. I tried to sew, but it didn't really hold my interest. I did finish one new Tonner man shirt. I have a near completed Ken shirt as well. I will finish that one tomorrow.
Tomorrow I absolutely MUST sweep and scrub the kitchen floor. It's so gross.
We are under a severe weather warning now. A snow storm is apparently going to sweep through tomorrow, starting at 7 am and going till 7 pm. I forlornly hope for a snow day on Monday, but it seems unlikely to occur. If the bad weather wraps up by 7 pm, the roads will be all cleared and passably good for Monday morning. And the high for Monday is supposed to be 38. Maybe it will slow down and intensify...I can dream...
Tomorrow, in addition to sweeping and scrubbing the kitchen, I need to sort and wash the laundry (and put it away, of course). I also need to strip my bed and change the sheets. The entire house needs to be dusted, but I doubt that is going to happen any time soon.
Now, I'm crashing, so it is time for me to say good night.
Don't forget that tonight is daylight savings time. Set your clocks ahead. (Spring AHEAD; Fall BACK). Coolio.

Date: 2009-03-08 08:04 am (UTC)Sortof. I did a load of just underwear so I would have some. I have two or three weeks worth of underwear and had none this morning. That shows how much time I've had at home. I've spent Sat and Sun. for two weekends at my parents house and the same this weekend. I'm desperately trying to get my car nice enough to sell. I spent half of the day getting my detailing stuff together to buff and wax the car (had to stop at Kragen for stuff and then Beverly's for fine paint brushes), then when I got there spent another 30 min. trying to get the touch up pen to work. Finally had to go to the dealership and spend $15.00 for touch up paint. But that worked and looked good. It was 4pm by then so just spent some time taking goo off of the inside where velcro was removed and buffing out scratches in the plastic. Looks great. So tomorrow it will be a full day of exterior work.
There has to be a solution to your basement laundry problem. What about rigging up a pulley with clothesline rope. Tie it to the laundry basket so you can lower it (instead of just throwing it down the stair) and then haul it back up without having to carry it. I'll bet there's a Rube Goldberg way of rigging something.
Your crochet stuff is still here. I keep adding to the stack. If I'm going to mail it I might as well make it worthwhile.
Weather has been pleasant. It was cooler this weekend than last, but I could still wear T-shirt and shorts to work on car. I need it to be cool and overcast tomorrow to do the detailing.
Joann's were pricks. You should have just given them the buttons and stuff back and said, never mind, just give me my refund. (And if you paid cash they should have given you cash back. If by check and it was over 10 days ago and cleared, they could still give you cash.) But...you know you're going to spend that card eventually. Just make sure it doesn't have an expiration date and that there are no extra charges deducted for not using it. Our local Joann's is inconveniently located far enough that I only buy from them online. I shop at Beverly's. (Or Michaels or Yardage Town)
Contract negotiations are ongoing between the district and the union. Looks like there may be a formula for librarians given each middle and high school half a librarian. That means a split assignment like I'm doing this year, only at a middle or high school. Too bad really. There is a formula for elementary schools but even if you added both of my schools together they don't meet the minimum requirement (950 students) for a half time librarian. So I'll be doing something else next year, but hopefully at two middle or high schools.
Daylight stupid time already? Eff that. In this regard (and only this regard) Arizona is superior to the rest of the nation.

Date: 2009-03-08 01:20 pm (UTC)Regarding the laundry--I am considering getting a stackable washer and dryer and putting them upstairs in the spare room. It shares a wall with the bathroom, so accessing the pipes would not be too difficult.
You can tell that houses were designed by men. It is so illogical to have the laundry facilities two floors from where the clothes are removed when dirty and stored when clean.
If I ever get the chance to build a new house, the laundry facilities will be right next to the bedrooms.
I have a Barnes and Noble gift card that my sister Tammy gave me for Christmas. I love to shop at B&N, but walking any distance, even with the cane, is so painful. Perhaps I will look on-line. It is different though, because I love to browse with all the books there to touch and smell and read random snippets of.
Same thing with the fabric store...just going into JoAnnes (or any other fabric store) just gives me a buzz of joy. All those colors and patterns and textures. It's heavenly. Sigh.
When I retire, if I am not a complete cripple, I would love to work part time at either a fabric store or a book store. I'm sure I would never take home a nickle in a paycheck. I'd just take it all in trade. Heh heh.
I need to read more. I seem to have no time for much these days. So many books. So little time....

Date: 2009-03-08 06:36 pm (UTC)House *are* designed with the laundry on the bedroom floor now. Doing that to your home would probably increase the value or at least balance the losing of a bedroom. If you have a three bedroom house then that room becomes a laundry room office or laundry room craft room since you have a sewing machine etc. If you can put up anything to hide the laundry when it's not being used, even better. A counter next to the stackables for folding another plus. But that is a good idea and a good investment.
And face it. How many times do you have guests requiring more than one guest room? So there's your room, the guest room and your laundry/craft/office room where all of the cr@p lives. Might even make it easier to keep the house clean.
Mine is a sty. Literally. I have opened mail all over the floor in the living room by my chair. And I just drop my dirty laundry on the floor next to my bed before I go to sleep. No one visits and I'm just so tired I don't care. I lost control when I hurt my back and was in pain for a year and I've never caught back up again. Not working 5 days a week and having a day and a half at home (and on restricted motion due to the back.) The yard is also a mess. I can hire someone to clean the yard but the house I'll have to do myself. That's probably where the income tax refund will go this year. If I ever get the house under control again, I'm considering hiring my mother's cleaning lady to come out twice a month like my Mom.
Today is my fourth day on the car. I hope to finish, take final pics and get that su¢ker listed. If I can get close to what I'm asking, I can pay off the Chase card and they can kiss my derriere over their increased fees. My credit union card has a fixed rate and will be my only card. It will make taxes harder as I'll have to keep track of which purchases are for school but it's worth it.

Date: 2009-03-08 10:43 pm (UTC)Sigh.
I have got the kitchen almost under control again.
That's something.
