Wild turkeys
Jul. 26th, 2012 02:18 amThe baby turkeys don't show up as well as their mommas. A lot of what *looks* like dry leaves in the ditch is actually baby turkey heads!
These guys are actually almost tame. They go down my sister Joni's long driveway to her apple orchard and eat the apples that have fallen off the trees. Then they casually stroll under the barbed wire fence that pens in her horses and poke through the horse droppings to find and eat undigested grain.
When my sister goes out to feed or water the horses, accompanied by her escourt service of barn kitties, usually between five and twelve of them, the turkeys just let her and her entourage walk right through them--no running away in fear or getting defensive.

Date: 2012-07-26 05:46 pm (UTC)They're acclimated.
They know they are in no danger and that there is food and they will be left alone to feed.
And I'm sure they're teaching their young the same thing so as long as they are left undisturbed, the generations will continue to come back and peacefully coincide.
I hope Joni and her husband never sell. No telling what the new owners would do.
