January 5 through 7
Jan. 8th, 2022 09:06 pm I found a package on my deck this morning. I must have ordered it, but I don’t remember doing it. It was a “world’s smallest Barbie house” and a box of Lindt chocolates. The Barbie house is the perfect size to be a toy for the Skipper dolls. It even comes with a small barbie inside.
I ate the last of the Christmas ham in a bun with swiss cheese for lunch today. I had intended to make it into a ham and cheese quiche or ham and potato soup, but I never got around to it.
The Sequoia crew came over to clean out my driveway and the deck and patio. I stuck my head out and asked one of the young men if he’d be willing to pull my garbage and recycling bins back up to the house. I offered to give him $5 to do it, but he just smiled and said, “Oh, no. You don’t have to pay me anything. I can do that.”
What a pal.
Sadly, he didn’t put the bins into their little stalls close enough for me to just stand at the top of the breezeway stairs and drop my stuff in them, but it is still a lot better than having them on the street.
My squirrel friend peered in the window, begging for peanuts, so I tossed a handful out to him. I am almost out of peanuts, so I will be ordering some for him next time I get groceries.
Thursday, January 6
I folded my last load of laundry and dragged it into the bedroom.
I cooked my Schwan’s General Tso’s Chicken and a bag of fried rice and ate some of that for a late lunch, early supper. It’s pretty good—spicy, but not excessively spicy. There is enough of it left for at least three more meals. Maybe four. While those were cooking, I started working on my lazy susan. I got everything out of the top tier and started organizing all the canned goods. I started writing the expiration year on the cans in big numbers so I can see at a glance which need to be used first.
I called in my grocery order in the afternoon—mostly, I bought produce—some oranges, grapes, tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, a cantaloupe, some avocadoes, and some bananas. I also got a beef roast, some hamburger, some pita bread, milk, orange juice, and eggs. I am going to be trying to eat better this year.
I also ordered a few things from Schwan’s online. I had used all of the single serve frozen dinners since I last ordered. That was before Christmas, so it has been a while. I got a few more of the single serve frozen dinners, a box of ready to microwave cheeseburgers, and a tub of broccoli cheese soup which is a new product. I am looking forward to trying that.
I have a medium sized box where I am tossing all the things that are expired. I am still going to use stuff from 2021 and one or two things from 2020. Anything newer is going in the trash. Anything that stray cat might eat is going out on the deck. I have a can of beef roast and a small square can of sardines which are both expired that the kitty will get. I have not seen him lately, but hopefully he will come back. Poor homeless kitty.
Friday, January 7
I really wanted to sleep all day today. But, I knew the Schwan’s man would be coming sometime between 11 am and 1 pm and Ross would be coming sometime after 2 pm. So I got up. Grudgingly.
After getting dressed, I went to the breezeway, opened the door, cleaned the litterboxes, and swept the breezeway. From there, I went right to work in the kitchen. I worked on the lazy susan most of the day. I made an inventory of everything I had in there as I organized and dated them. I had an insane amount of Cream of Mushroom soup. I think I counted 16 cans. Insanity. Either tomorrow or Sunday, I plan to make the green bean hot dish with mushroom soup and French fried onion rings on top. I love that stuff and I have all the ingredients I need to make it. If I had tator tots, I’d make tator tot hot dish, which is also delicious.
Larry, the Schwan’s man, delivered my frozen foods and even put them in the freezer for me.
Before Ross came to deliver the groceries, I wiped down a six pack of Diet Pepsi and a six pack of Diet 7-Up and restocked the pop fridge in the kitchen.
When Ross got here, I wiped down my groceries and put them away. Most of them went into the refrigerator. I seem to be well stocked with canned goods as it is. The bananas I bought are as green as Shrek’s butt. Sigh. I hope they will ripen. The last time I got bananas that green, they never did turn yellow. They went right from green to black and had to be thrown away. The grapes looked good.
I warmed up another plate of the General Tso’s chicken and fried rice and ate that.
In the evening, I went on Amazon and looked for new curtains for my kitchen. I decided I just wanted valances, not full curtains. These are the ones I ordered. I hate the ones that came with the house—they are very faded, and they are covered with giant faded song birds. Very gaudy and ugly.
These are simple and pretty. They will go with a few different colors. I haven’t decided on what color I am going to paint the kitchen. Blue and Yellow are on the short list. Blue is the most likely. All I know is the dark avocado green is NOT going to stay.
I also made a list of all the things I want to do in the kitchen. I have decided that the kitchen is going to be my January project. This is what I have listed so far:
· Clean, organize, date, and inventory all the food in both lazy susans—one is mostly canned goods and the other is mostly baking supplies.
· Throw out all outdated food items
· Write expiration date (year) on all food items with sharpie
· Clean and polish all the wood surfaces in the kitchen
· Polish all stainless steel appliances in the kitchen
· Take everything off counters/scrub the counter tops
· Clean all the items from the counters and replace them
· Scrub and polish the sinks
· Try the vinegar and baking soda trick to cure the slow drain/call plumber to deal with them if it doesn’t work.
· Wash the windows
· Buy and hang new valences for windows
· Take everything out of the refrigerators/scrub the insides/put all good foods back in
· Scrub off and polish table and set it up for eating meals
· Go through cupboards/wipe them down/get rid of any dishes that are not useful or beautiful
· Go through all the drawers/wipe them down/organize them/get rid of anything that is not useful
· Clean and straighten under the sink
· Scrub the water dispenser
· Scrub cat mat and bowls
· Sweep and scrub floor
This list will be added to if I think of anything else.

Poor Homeless Kitty. Minnesota winters are not kind to homeless cats. Shadow Kitty was seen a few months ago so she is still around. She doesn't live in the playhouse any more but she has been seen in the area and strolled across the yard when she was spotted. I suspect she is getting fed from more than one house and has found a more kitty friendly yard. I don't think Dolly, Diana and now Freyja are too welcoming. She may have found it just too unsettling, not knowing when she was going the have to dodge fur and teeth.
Have you heard at all how poor Siffy is doing?
I only have valences in my kitchen but long ones I made myself. They are on spring rods mounted inside the window frame. This way the people above the garage next door can't see in but I can see out the bottom that isn't covered. I suppose they can see my feet but I don't care. I have two windows that meet in the corner above my corner sink so I made two pair. One in cherries and one in watermelons. I should probably take these down and put the others up. It's time to alternate, wash and put them away. I switch them every few years for variety and so they fade more or less evenly.
I have some full days planned this week.
Tomorrow I will be taking the dogs to the dog park, picking up Arby's, picking up my Joann's order, picking up my Target order and then going home.
Monday it is all about Diana's vet appointment and after that dropping amazon returns off at Kohls and UPS on my way home. I just got those together tonight.
Then it will be working on the yard and getting photos taken and listing stuff online on Etsy and Poshmark. If I get a chance I might try listing some books on amazon before the end of the month.
Listing stuff is my first priority, getting the garden going and the rest of the raised beds built is second and cleaning and organizing in the house, yard and garage ongoing. I want the garage cleared out this year so I can get the garage door opener repaired. I want the island in the kitchen finished, the cabinet above the stove replaced and the new microwave installed.
After that I can start to work on the rest of the house. It took many years to get it this bad and will take time to clear it out. I just hope I can sell a bunch of shit and don't end up just donating it to charity for pennies on the dollars for what I paid.

Date: 2022-01-15 09:41 pm (UTC)I don't think anyone else sent that little doll house. It is the perfect size for my vintage Skipper dolls to "play" with. I think I had it on my wish list on Amazon.
As far as I know Siffy is doing okay. He has some degenerative eye issue, but they are giving him drops (which he hates) twice a day as ordered by the vet. They also bought him some doggy sunglasses, which he also hates, but he will accept them. He is getting lots of treats which he loves.

Date: 2022-01-15 11:23 pm (UTC)So did you buy it and forget or did someone send it to you from your Amazon list?
Glad to hear they love Siffy enough to overcome their irresponsibility and laziness and take care of him. But I still thinks he deserves better. Dogs are way too forgiving.
