May 25 through 28

I attacked my laundry today, and while I was in the laundry room, I cleaned the litter box, added fresh litter, and swept up the litter that my monsters kicked all over the floor. Before I even left the room, William kicked twice as much out again.
Today is my brother Jack’s birthday—he’s 57 now. He has covid, but he is feeling better. The steroids, covid pills, and codeine cough syrup they gave him is having its desired effect. Here’s hoping he will be completely better very soon.
Not much else going on today.
Thursday, May 26
I finished the laundry today and cleaned the three litterboxes in the breezeway. I also swept and scrubbed the breezeway floor and organized all the soft cat food cans in a box of JUST the right size in the living room. Now it is at least neat.
Amber, my physical therapist, came today and did some standing exercises which were hard and exhausting. My legs hurt the rest of the day. She did not stay very long. She drives an hour to get here and an hour back again, and she is only here for 15 to 20 minutes. It seems like a waste of gas.
Oh, well.
While she was here, the ear piece of my glasses snapped off. Ugh.
I turned the baked chicken into chicken salad for sandwiches. It tastes really good, but it seemed to create some issues with diarrhea. I know the chicken and other ingredients are good and fresh—but something about it just didn’t function well inside me.
Lily came over and brought my mail. She had a sandwich of the chicken salad and enjoyed it. I told her about my glasses and she said I should call and see if I could bring them in to be repaired tomorrow as she is taking Rhonda to a chiropractor appointment in Owatonna.
I called and not only could I bring them in, but the doctor that Dr. Beth had selected to be her replacement for me when she retired had a cancellation at 10:20, and I was long overdue for an eye exam. So, I made the appointment.
I didn’t really want to go anywhere tomorrow, but it make sense to do it and get it done.

I got up early enough to shower before going to my eye appointment. I did not want to be stinky in public. Lol.
Lily picked me up and we got to the eye clinic in plenty of time. I met Dr. Eric who seemed like a nice guy—Dr. Beth described him as “a young man with an old soul.” We had a nice chat during the exam, and apparently my eye veins are not leaking any more as he did not mention anything about that. He said everything looks good. My left eye is the same, but I need a new prescription for the right one. I picked up a really cute pair of new glasses and they did a temporary fix on my current glasses, and I got a new pair of sunglasses as they were half price. I had plenty of money in my checking account, so I paid the whole bill so all I have to do is pick up the glasses when they come in.
On the way home, Lily stopped at Taco John’s where I bought her and Rhonda each a beverage and bought myself a beef burrito and the mango/shrimp tacos. The mango/shrimp tacos were nothing spectacular, but they were edible. I had the beef burrito later. It was good. The sweet tea was refreshing.
When I got home, I cleared the breezeway area out so Ross can get in when he delivers the groceries. I hauled two bags of cat litter scoopings out to the bin. I have two heavy bags of garbage that need to go out too, but I just didn’t have the strength to haul them out. The physical therapy really messed up my legs. They hurt and feel weak. So, I am giving them a rest.
When Ross delivered the groceries, we had a brief chat. I put all my groceries away and then just sat and read my book the rest of the afternoon and evening.
I sent a text to Hope asking how she was doing. I have been meaning to do that for several days. She sent a text back saying that she was doing okay—that it was just more like the sniffles. So, I was glad to hear that. I sent a text to Lily telling her that as I am sure she has been concerned for her granddaughter.

I wanted to sleep late—very late—but I could not sleep past 8:30. To be fair, I have been going to bed much earlier than normal. I’ve felt really tired and burned out. And bored. I have been feeling really bored lately.
I spent a lot of today reading. I haven’t been reading much since I had that dreadful experience at Methodist Hospital—and the main reason is that whatever they did to me affected my ability to process the written word. It seems to be improving though as I have read two books this month and had no trouble with my reading comprehension. I cannot say how much of a relief that is. I really thought I had permanent brain damage. And maybe I do—but it isn’t as bad as I feared it was.
The book I read was The Rescuer (by Dee Hendersen) which is the last in a series of books about a “family” of orphans who grew up together in a group home and chose to form themselves into a family. My mother lent them to me while I was in the hospital in Waseca recovering from the wounds from the appendectomy. I read all but the last one. I don’t remember much about the others, but at least I have completed the set.
Today was a gorgeous day—sunny and just the perfect temperature. David Lassahn mowed my yard, and I paid him for the three times he mowed in May.
Now I want to choose another book to read. I used to read constantly. I possess many books that I have not read yet, and I would like to read them all.
I guess that’s it for today.

Of course, anyone can get on the NY Times best seller list. The Republicans do it all the time. Sarah Palin. Trump Jr.
This is how she gets her books published: https://cbaonline.org/
Did your Mom give you book 0? Danger in the Shadows. I think that makes a total of seven books.
I should do laundry today. And some organizing now that the blue bin is empty. And give Diana a bath. I'm just not that motivated. I think the only thing I'll accomplish is her bath because she needs it. Maybe I'll feel better after I eat. And maybe have a nap.
Good deal on the glasses. Half price for sunglasses is a steal. I paid $200 for mine. Why they have to be twice as much as regular glasses, I don't know.
Some book suggestions:
The Art of Racing in the Rain (the adult version)
Cinnamon and Gunpowder. Sounds odd but the book was really good.
Anything by Nick Trout but especially his fiction. The Patron Saint of Lost Dogs and and Dog Gone, Back Soon. Not sure why he hasn't written anything else. He is a practicing vet but has a real flair for writing, both non-fiction and fiction. Both of those books are on Kindle.
The Chet and Bernie series by Spencer Quinn. Also his Arthur and Queenie series and Bowser and Birdie series. Those last two are for youth. Queenie is a cat and Arthur is a dog. They each tell the story from their perspective. I really liked the Bowser and Birdie but get all three and read them in order because they arch. That series is done but I'm hoping there may be more Arthur and Queenie because that was left open ended with some threads still not finished. Chet and Bernie is ongoing. I think all are on kindle.
I have The Art of Racing in the Rain on audio and did burn it on CD but don't remember if I sent them to you.
Also worth the audio is Olive, Mabel and Me narrated by author Andrew Cotter. (His second book still unavailable.) But it is only available on Audible, which is a big PITA. Both of his hardcover or Kindle books are worth reading but I can't recommend the Kindle versions as I don't know if they include all the photos.
