Friday, July 1

It is unbelievable that it is already July, and 2022 is half over already.  Time goes by so very fast.

I had a fairly productive day.  I cleaned the litter boxes in the breezeway again.  If I don’t clean them every other day, they get impossibly full and it takes a lot of time and effort to scoop all the poop and pee out of them.  Fortunately, I now have a very heavy duty metal pooper scooper which makes it easier to clean them.  Then, I went in the kitchen and did some food prep.  I had two ribeye steaks in the fridge, so I fried both of them.  They were quite large, so I only ate half of one and saved the other half for tomorrow.  I had some raspberries in the fridge that were on the cusp of going bad, so I cleaned what I could and added them to two packages of raspberry jello.  Unfortunately, it was sugar free jello, so it had a sort of off taste.  Artificial sweeteners are not real palatable in Jello.  Finally, I made green bean casserole.  That is one of my favorite dishes.  Usually we only make it for holiday feasts, but I’ve been hungry for it, and I had all the ingredients on hand, so I made it.  It was perfect.  Maybe I was just super hungry, but I don’t think it has ever turned out this well before.

It's the easiest thing in the world to make.  I make it in my small round roaster.  I oil the roaster so the casserole doesn’t stick, making clean up easier.  I drain three cans of French cut green beans, stir in two cans of cream of mushroom soup (I like the Healthy Request because it has less salt and fat than the regular), pack that into the roaster, and then sprinkle a package of Durkee French Fried onions over the top.  Then you bake it until the top is crusty and the beans and mushroom soup are bubbly up on the edges.  I can have just a big bowl of that for a meal.  Though it is better with some meat and potatoes on the side.

Ross delivered my grocery order, so I put that away immediately.  I bagged up some garbage and recycling and hauled them out to the breezeway.

By that time, I was tired and retreated to my recliner with a bag of “Poppables” and put my feet up.

Saturday, July 2

Today I washed up the clothes I salvaged from those I donated.  I will cut them up for doll clothes once I have the house in order and I feel entitled to do some sewing for fun again.  I spent a lot of time talking on the phone—I had phone conversations with Mom, Lily, my cousin Kari, and my brother Jack.  I did not get a ton done due to being on the phone.  I think Lily called me two or three times.  She needs a lot of reassurance, and her kids have no patience for her.

I filled my pill caddy this morning and called in for a refill of my glucose monitor’s test strips.  I am getting very low.

I feasted like a lord in a castle today. I ate the other half of the steak, a baked potato, a big clump of green bean casserole, and a bowl of raspberry jello.  I was so full that I felt like I’d had a Thanksgiving feast!

I did not do much else today—whenever I have a productive day, it is followed by at least another day or two of limping around nursing my aches and pains.  I watched and deleted two movies from my DVR—The Lady in White, a ghost story, and Mona Lisa Smile, a Julia Roberts movie about a middle aged art professor trying to inspire a bunch of hoity toity rich college girls to strive for more in their lives than an MRS degree.  Both were pretty good.

I considered picking up my mother and driving out to Beaver Lake to see the fireworks display all the people who live around the lake put on every year the day before the Fourth.  But after all the bullshittery with the Supreme Court and Donald Fuckwad tRUMP and his hangers-on and cultists, I am just not feeling real patriotic.  So, I stayed home and avoided the mosquitos.

Monday, July 4

I didn’t get to bed last night till after 2 am, so I slept till almost noon today.  I folded the first load of laundry I did the other day and rewashed the load in the washer as it had set there for two days.  It smelled a little sour.  It’s in the dryer now.  I will fold it tomorrow.  Too tired tonight.

Some thunderstorms rolled through in the wee hours of morning.  I don’t know how much it rained but it rained pretty hard for a while.  My lawn sure needed some water.  The grass has turned practically yellow.  I’ll bet that rain will green it up nicely. It is supposed to rain again tomorrow and the next two days after that. We can use all of that rain.  It’s been very dry for the last few weeks.

Before I got up for the day, one of the cats knocked this little key chain off my dresser.  Sawyer was batting it around on the rug in the bedroom.  It’s a soft Totoro with a big “jingle bell” on the keychain too.  Sawyer when to pick it up in his mouth and bit down hard on it.  I didn’t know it had a squeaker, but it does.  It squeaked really loud when he bit down on it.  He reared back on his hind legs and stared at it with the most shocked look on his face.  William hustled over there to sniff it and bat at it with his paw.  I think they thought it was actually alive for a second there and that it had cried out in pain when Sawyer bit it.  LOL.  They are crazy little monkeys.

Some one (cats) puked three times at some point.  One puddle right inside the bathroom door way, one right inside the entrance to the kitchen, and one between the stove and the refrigerator.  The first was a “juicy” one that had partially dried and required scrubbing.  The others were not juicy and cleaned up easily with paper towel.  I hate when they puke.  It’s so gross.  The juicy ones are the worst.  Especially if they have partially dried and require scrubbing.  Ugh.

I just snacked on some Chex mix and Hot Tamales today while watching TV, but around 6 pm, I was hungry for actual food, so I got one of the Marie Calendar chicken pot pies out of the freezer and put it in the oven.  While the pot pie was baking, I washed a large sink full of dishes.

Idiots have been shooting off fireworks all day long.  William and Sawyer don’t seem bothered by them at all, but poor little Peaches is terrified.  She is hiding under the bed.

Today, I watched the movie Fantastic Beasts:  The Secrets of Dumbledore.  I have never seen it before, but I had recorded it at some point.  I am trying to work my way through all the movies I have recorded on the DVR.  I will have to sign up with a different cable company soon as Consolidated is trying to transform into a service for internet only.  Tomorrow I will start working my way through the whole season of This is Us.  I think I have fourteen episodes recorded.  Right now I am watching an old episode of Gunsmoke.  I recorded it, I assume, because Leonard Nimoy plays a Native American man looking for justice for his partner—an old buffalo hunter shot by the man who broke his word to him. It makes me sad to see Leonard Nimoy looking so young and strong in this show and knowing how weak and sick he was when he died.  I must say, he looks quite handsome with long braids and wearing buckskins.  He turns up as a native American in a lot of these old westerns.

Well, that’s about it or me today.  As soon as Gunsmoke is over, I am going to bed.  I am tired even though I didn’t do too much today.

I had a nightmare I was taking my driving test and hit a pedestrian.

Damn. Now I want jello.

I was hoping the new kitties wouldn't be as prone to puking as Peaches is. Pity.

I had two hot dogs, baked beans and Ruffles while I watched the 4th of America on CNN. Turned out to be the best of the lot, at least until they ended and went to New York City. I got bored and turned on PBS but was really disappointed in A Capitol Fourth. It's usually better. The fireworks were good. Not great but not bad.

You need to finish This is Us as it is the last season and won't repeat.

Did some research for you.

It doesn't look promising.
