I had trouble staying asleep last night.  I finally sat up and messed around on the internet for about an hour and a half--then went back to sleep around 5 am.  When I woke up again, I figured it was probably around 9 am--do to the quality of light.  Imagine my shock and horror when I looked at the clock and it was nearly noon.

Sigh.

So I have approximately ten hours in which to accomplish all the stuff I wanted to accomplish in my house this long weekend--NONE of which has been done--mainly due to spending Thursday/Friday/Saturday with family.

Dammit.

I hate when this happens.

I did not go to the family hoopla on Saturday--but I did stay at my mom's later than I planned.  I had planned to be out of there by 9 am.  However, I went downstairs to pack up my stuff, and ended up watching two episodes of Clean House which I LOVE to watch.  I think I love it because it shows me people who are in MUCH worse shape than I am regarding housework--and THEY come out with some pretty cool and tidy houses.  Of course, they DO have experts helping them to sort and bullying them to pitch things they've had for years and years.

At any rate, it gives me HOPE that one day, my house will not be the pit of despair that it is at this time.  And also, it gives me some interesting ideas on organizing things.

Anyhow, I ended up falling asleep during the last episode and not waking up until 12:15.  Those recliners in my mom's basement are HEAVENLY.  I love sitting in them.  9/10 times, I end up napping for HOURS.

My bed sucks so much and is so uncomfortable that I never sleep well.  So, I am always suffering from sleep deprivation, I suspect.  When I sit in one of those recliners--WHAM!  I'm out.

Well, on the way home, I stopped for groceries at Walmart.  The parking lot was absolutely PACKED and I was very unwilling to go into the mad house.  But since I intended ONLY to go into the grocery part, I found a not too distant parking place and forced myself to do it.  The grocery section was not too big of a madhouse.  I bought over $80 worth of groceries.  I'm sick of living on toast and pot pies.

When I got home, I unloaded my groceries and put them away.  Then, I went up and tinkered around with some odds and ends upstairs, got on the computer, and ended up talking to GG, Peter (P not M), DeAnn, Hierachry, and ECM on IM.  This lead to playing scrabble, and that kept up until after 11 pm.

Anyhow--I have LOTS to do today.  And it always makes me feel better if I can make a list, so that is what I have signed on to do.

MY LIST FOR TODAY.

  • Do laundry
  • Put away clean laundry
  • Make roast beef with potatoes, onions, and carrots.
  • Bake chicken and rice casserole
  • Make a big pot of chili.
  • Bake seven layer bars
  • Bake cookies
  • Bake two squashes and freeze them
  • Sweep and scrub kitchen
  • Wrap and box up the 12 Days of Christmas exchange.
  • Box up Piper and her stuff to send to Louisianna
  • Complete two other swap items and get them packaged to send to swap partners.
  • Prepare Jeanne-Mari's (finally completed) swap to mail to Africa.
  • Take pictures of all this stuff before mailing it off.
  • Finish packing up dolls for LoAnne.
  • Pay bills  (ARG)
  • Pick up and put away crap which is all over the bed room.  Again  (Sigh)

Do I really believe I can get all this done today?  No.  But if I shoot for the moon, at least I should be among the stars.

Look for a progress report later.

Sigh.

I had hoped to see Yours Mine and Ours today--but that's definitely out after my monster sleep in.

How old is your mattress?

Be honest.

It's something we never think about and it wears out so slowly we hardly notice until we're not sleeping and our back hurts.

I know.

My mattress was 20 years old before I replaced it. I think the lifespan of a mattress is ten years. It's especially ten years if you buy a cheap mattress to begin with.

When I decided to replace my mattress (I couldn't take the lack of sleep and back pain anymore) I replaced it with a really good mattress. Because my sleep meant more to me than money.

I know it's hard when you have no money.

But think of what you can accomplish with a really good night's sleep.

I never regreted the decision.

(K wanted leather-topped but he had to settle for pillow-topped.)

I bought sheets on eBay because I decided to get a different size mattress than I had. (I sold my brass bed and bought a vintage bed on ebay. Money I got for the brass paid for the new bed AND half the new mattress.) I was able to get high thread count sheets (600-800) for less than it would cost me to buy cheap sheets at the local stores. Man....I love eBay.

After I trim the bougainvilla I'm going to spend the rest of the day listing stuff I've had boxed and ready to sell and sitting in my dining room for two months. Now is the best time, right before Christmas. The trick is to sell more than you buy, which is hard given all of the great barbie bargains there are.

Then I'm going to go up in the attic and find more stuff to sell. I'm going to start selling off some of my old Hallmark ornaments I never put on the tree anymore. I have too many ornaments anyway. I've got enough of the mercury glass figural ones to do two trees, I don't need more hallmark. But..that way I can rotate them year to year. And I can't resist buying the Hallmark Dog Photo Frame ornament every year.

Maybe if you put your cat's photo on your tree she'll leave it alone.

Maybe not.

But think how festive it will look with the red olive tongue garland.

g.

Ooops. Got to run to the store to find more leather to wrap the presents with.

Sounds like you had/have an incredibly busy day! We got a new bed a year ago and I love it, of course I'm not sleeping in it now, it's New Orleans. I miss my comfy bed lol

Movie suggestion

I saw "Rent," "Walk the Line" and "Good Night, and Good Luck" over the break.

Definitely check out "Walk the Line"-- it was one of the best movies I've seen all year, although scenes of Johnny Cash rage kind of scared me. I actually flinched and covered my eyes a couple of times. (the rage for the vast majority of the movies was not directed at anyone but himself, which made it a little less disburbing)

But not the movie you want to see if you're looking for something light, happy and fluffy, but excellent nonetheless.

Good luck with all the stuff. God knows I've got a hella lot of shit to get done.
