The Inevitable has Occured.
Dec. 12th, 2006 10:50 pmMy dear aunt Darla passed away at 3:15 pm. My mom is taking it hard as it is her baby sister--and her ONLY sister.
sadness.
Why does it always seem to happen at Christmas time?

Date: 2006-12-13 04:33 pm (UTC)Because it's a holiday, and the family is "gathered 'round", metaphorically if not actually. People like to have company around to say goodbye, like everybody piling in the car to drive someone to the airport.
I have an auntie on her farewell tour whose birthday is next week, with Christmas being the week after that. She's also the last of a dozen or so siblings.
Give her a joyous sendoff; go through her stuff and tell stories about her; wear her scarves and jewelry, and make them sing her favorite carols in church at Christmas. Cry and laugh at the same time.
Here's a hand to you, my friend
and gie us a hand o' thine
So drink a cup of kindness yet
for auld lang syne...

But also have a good cry. Cry because you'll miss her. Cry because cancer is not fair.
Bake a batch of Darla's favorite cookies.
