Thursday/Friday/Saturday Update
Apr. 28th, 2007 09:19 pmThursday
I do not have a lot to say about Thursday--it was the annual spring "clean-up" day at R.O.C. About half of the kids were taken up to the Twins Game for Nick and Chris's classes. The rest were divided into crews and did a bunch of chores. Some went to clean up the highway--some went to clean up the park--some went to clean up the stream. Some walked along the no-longer-used railroad tracks behind the school and cleaned up the crap that blew in there. Some made the May-baskets we distribute to our "community partners" every year. The final two crews were mine and Cecelia's. Her bunch washed all the recycling bins. Mine scrubbed the walls in the hallway. It was hard work. But what a DIFFERENCE it made!!
At first the kids were kind of whiny, and got mouthy with Cecelia--but to be honest, she is rather cranky with them too--she always comes on like "the boss," and this kind of kid doesn't respond well to that. I stepped in and said, "You have to clean. We all clean--we do this every year. It is part of the responsibility of going to R.O.C. And I can GUARANTEE you, if you refuse to participate, Jay WILL boot your ass when he gets back." (Jay is out of town with his son till Tuesday, I think.)
That was pretty much the end of the whining--except for the whining about the stink of pinesol and how hot it was. Once they got going, they worked like little beavers. They really got into it--probably because I got into it and modeled being excited about seeing the walls come clean. Heh heh.
Cecelia disappeared after doing a couple of patrols around the hallway--rumor has it she was in with the May basket makers.

>_<
She needs to be *whapped* a couple of times, I think.
When the kids were whining about her not being there to help, I told them they had to cut her a little slack because she is pregnant. But in my head, I was as grumpy as they were about her splitting.
anyhow....
My crew worked so hard that I promised them a treat.
Since it was Thursday, Cecelia and I had to serve lunch too. Blair normally serves with us, but he took that day off to "do something fun"--Susan was really pissed about that since Jay and Chris and Nick and someone else who I can't think of at the moment were all out of the building too.
Fortunately, there were not too many kids who ordered lunch--and a lot of those who did did not show up to collect it. After lunch, we had a speaker who had been a drug addict but was now in recovery. She was pretty interesting. The kids were really well behaved.
We let them go at 1:45.
My arms and back just ACHED after the cleaning day. I really wanted to go to see Laurie Cole, my Owatonna chiropractor who does acupuncture, but she had no openings. So, I tried to call Jeff from West Concord. He wasn't there either. HE was in HAWAII!!! Now, why don't *I* ever get to be in Hawaii???
However, Chris (his receptionist) said that the massage therapist just had a cancellation--so would I like to take the spot?
Would I?????
Do Republicans shit all over everyone????
OF COURSE I wanted the opening.
It helped tremendously--my back and shoulders were so tender that it felt like someone had beaten me with a bat. And she found EVERY SINGLE SORE SPOT....however, it HURT SO GOOD.
When I got home, I collapsed.
Friday
On Friday, I headed to school.
There was a mentally deranged semi truck driver parked in the turn lane where I turn off 14 to go on the side road I thought he was waiting so he could swing wide and turn--so I just sat and waited for him in my own turn lane. But the moron never moved. And I couldn't see around him, so I went as as far to the left as I could and looked under him to see what was coming. Just as I started to pull out to scoot across, he barreled forward. If I had hit the gas just slightly harder, I'd be DEAD as a DOORNAIL right now. I'd have been flattened. I still don't know WTF he was up to. Anyhow--
by then a line of cars was behind me in the turn lane, and I was on the wrong side--and I didn't know if I would EVER get across. I eventually did, of course, after about 10 minutes of sitting there feeling stupid.
My big priority on Friday was getting that crap for my relicensure finalized. I had to go through and make sure all the forms were properly filled out...I had to print a copy of my teaching license off the internet and I had to make copies of everything in case those morons lost stuff....
By noon, I was flirting with a panic attack. My heart was beating funny, and my head felt like it was going to explode. I felt like I was going to burst into sobs at any moment.
Part of it was that I was so busy stressing over the paperwork that I didn't eat lunch, so my blood sugar was crashing.
Finally, I went into the kitchen and snagged a sandwich that didn't get picked up at lunch time and some carrot sticks and some ranch dressing.
after I ate that, I felt better.
As soon as I could after school, I went to the post office down the road and mailed off my stuff. They said they were sure it would get there in a day--but they could not actually guarantee it unless I did overnight delivery--which would have cost $12.00
no way.
I already had to pay $57 to get the damn license renewed.
Well, Susan had her son's big landscaping truck and had to drive it over to his house. She asked me to follow her and pick her up and give her a ride home. I didn't mind.
Then she wanted to buy me supper--which wasn't necessary--but I let her. We went to Sky Dragon in the Miracle Mile. It was sooooo good. there was a honeyed shrimp that was to DIE for. And fried dumplings that were very tasty. and they had fresh strawberries. yummy fresh strawberries.
I was so stuffed when we left there that I could hardly move.
Then we went home.
On the way DeAnn called and wanted me to come over for supper with her and Jim--I just groaned.
I would have liked to have spent time with them, but I just couldn't eat anything--and I was sooooo tired. I just wanted to go to bed.
I ended up messing around, talking to Jersey on line.
Saturday.
My intention was to get up early and clean house until Mom and Kim got here. They wanted to bring a bunch of clothes and stuff to the Third World Friends store in Kenyon.
It didn't work out that way. Chrissie called first thing in the morning with drama. This drama basically persisted throughout the day.
I had to run to Kasson to pick up my prescriptions which I had forgotten to get on Friday. On the way there, a freaking MORON tried to kill me. I was cruising along, eating my toast and swiss cheese and talking to Jersey on the cell phone (I had the ear piece in so I wasn't hanging on to the phone with my hand).
I'm traveling east. Some idiot in a big, shiny black pickup was traveling west. I was going at a pretty good clip. All of a sudden, this fool turns RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.
I yell, "JESUS CHRIST! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?" I hit the brakes and left a long skid mark on the road. I could hear my tires squealing. Then I scream, "MORON!!!" And blasted the horn long and loud at him. There was a guy right behind him and another guy sitting on the south side of the road waiting to cross.
I couldn't tell whether it was an old guy or a young guy or even a guy at all.
All I know is that it was a moron.
Then I started to wonder what was going on--since this was the second idiot in two days who'd tried to murder me. Then I started being paranoid because things come in threes. Will I see the NEXT idiot? Or will he get me??
So then I went to Kasson and got my drugs.
and then I came home and took a bath.
Mom and Kim arrived before I was done getting dressed.
We sat downstairs and talked a while. Mom said she liked my kitchen floor--first time she's seen it--and I think it has been in for almost two years....
There's something very sad about that....
We went to Kenyon. On the way, mom said she had a small bag full of dad's ties that she was getting rid of. I said I wanted them, since I've been wanting to find some ties to use to make barbie clothes. I thought his ties were all long gone. so, cool. I have a whole bag of them now.
also in there was a shoe horn and a brush with horses' heads on the handles...and a wooden tie rack with a horse on it. I am thinking that the tie rack would make a great headboard for a ranch style bed. The horse head handles....I'm not sure...but I'm thinking that SOMETHING cool could be done with them. I'll have to look at them and think a while.
After we took the stuff to Kenyon, we went to Rochester. Kim wants to learn to drive in Rochester. So, I took her the back way--by Oxbow Park. I toldher how 22 would take her right to walmart. but we wanted to eat at Carlos O'Kelly's, so we went up the road that leads to Target and caught the frontage road that leads to Carlos O'Kelly's.
I had my favorite spinach enchilada which was fabulous. They brought mom a fried ice cream for her birthday.
I only ate half of it--and of course, I forgot my left overs in Kim's car when they dropped me off. :(
We went to Sam's club. I sat in the car and sewed while she and mom went in. I gave Kim $10 to get me some citrical. Then I asked them if they wanted to see my new couch--so I took them to the furniture superstore and showed them the couch I bought (well, the one like the one I ordered) and the chair I wanted. I really want that matching chair and ottoman.....but it is over $500 for the chair--and I am not sure what the ottoman would cost...
maybe I can squeak out a hundred bucks a check to pay it off over the summer....maybe.....
Then I showed her how easy it was to get to the mall using 22 to go around the south end. I sat in the car and sewed while kim and Mom went into the mall. I didn't have any money, and I didnt' want to see something I couldn't live without and use my card.
I *did* go into TRU with them though...but amazingly enough--I only spent 50 cents. And that was in one of the gumball machines because they had one with little china "Dora the Explorer" dishes. Kim had another dollar in quarters. I got three plates. Mom beat it out of there before I could hound her to check for quarters.
I've got to round up all my quarters for the change jars I have sitting around and go back there next week. They are the perfect size for Barbie.
When I got home, I didn't do anything except make hotdogs and beans for supper. I'm getting sick of that meal.
I popped some popcorn and buttered it too.
Now I am finally about ready to go to bed.
