The Rennaisance Festival.....
Sep. 23rd, 2007 09:10 pmIt was really cool. I loved all the costumes--really cool stuff. And there were some DEAD SEXY men there too, dressed up like musketeers and highlanders and brigands of various sorts. And lots and lots of women in very ornate gowns and some very flimsy looking belly dancing outfits. eeek.
I took TONS of pictures.

This is my favorite picture of the whole day---Isn't this little fairy the most adorable creature ever?
Why can't *I* look like this???
Maybe in my next life....
She posed so sweetly for me. Look at that sweet little pixie face. Adorable.

She played her little flute very well too.

We got to the Festival at about 10 am. About an hour after the gates openned.

The line was long--but not nearly as long as it was later in the day.
There were a few people in garb welcoming guests to the "realm."
These two characters assured me that this was the "fun line."
There is a little pond right before you go in the entrance.
These "wenches" were giving people in the crowd crap. They were talking about how much they like "nerds."
hehe
I don't know whether to be amused or horrified by this scene.
There were two very small children--they looked like they were less than five years old.
Each had two balloons attached to their fencing helmets. The object was to poke the balloons on the other person's helmet. Whoever got both balloons popped was the winner of the "duel." Those little buggers were hacking the shit out of each other! The poor little things. It was amusing--yet horrifying as well.
There you see them mixing it up. In the background you can see the next duelers waiting for this match to end.
This was a cool structure.
This was at a wine booth. I had intended to buy a cup of wine, but they didn't even look at me, so I wandered away. I did take a picture--I think it might have had ghosts. There's an orb floating near the customer's head. There was nothing on my camera lens--and the pictures before and after this one didn't have anything on them. Also, I think there are some very weird shadows in this picture. Are the Rennasiance Festival grounds haunted? Inquiring minds would like to know.
I thought the guy in the center was sort of cute in his get up.
The highlander to the left was sexy. Oooh, la la!
The boy on the right was cute--but just a little boy.
There was a little animal petting area in that shed in the back. In the window up top was a tethered rooster.
There you can see the rooster better.
They had rides for people on Llamas, Camels, and Elephants.

There is the elephant!
DeAnn and I made molded medallions.
This is what it looked like after it was poured.
Everyone else who was making them was a child. Heh heh.
I wanted to watch these guys make armour, but they were just standing around. I was a little disappointed.
Look, another orb. Maybe the ghosts followed me.
This is SEVERAL pictures after the first one's appearance.
I like seeing the tools and implements they use....It's cool.
I wish I could afford to buy myself a real sword. They are such beautiful things. But, holy crap!!
They cost between $400 and $800. I certainly can't afford that!
This is a "ride"--actually, it is like a trampoline and bungee cords. It looked fun--but not for an old fat lady like me. Ha ha. I'd probably do myself a lethal injury on something like that!
Loved this kid's wizard outfit.
Just an assortment of costumed characters.
This guy in black leather was very attractive.
The lady with him was lovely too--but she is obscured by this kid's head.
This woman's gown was ornate and lovely.
The two "wenches" in the balconey were showering the crowd with bubbles.
This chick had a lot of personality!
These two guys just looked great. I had to sneak a picture.
These were some belly dancers. I watched them perform.
When the crowd got this thick, it stopped being fun for me. I felt like my head was going to explode. There wasn't an inch between me and anyone else--or anyone as far as the eye could see. I hate huge crowds of people. I felt like I was going to puke or pass out or just start screaming hysterically.
I liked the way this looked--the bright light and the shadow of the trees
and the sunlight on the leaves--it just struck me as beautiful.
I loved this little stone building. What fun it would be to have something like this as a little retreat.
These were like giant swings in the shape of ships. I would have liked to play on these!

This pink building was pretty cool, too.
A wandering minstrel.
Another absolutely charming young individual. His costume was very nicely detailed,
and he was just as cute as he could be. I love his boots.
He was so focused on filling his pipe with tobacco. It was fun to watch him do it.
This picture is a little fuzzy--he moved to sit in the shade under a tree. I wanted to get a picture of his face--he was darling. (But just a little boy, really--so young.)
Here he is from the back--NO IT IS NOT A BUTT SHOT. I wanted to show his belt with all his implements hanging from it. I thought it was cool. Some of these guys really go into detail in their costumes.
This is one of the coolest things I saw all day. This big tortoise followed his human "mama" all over the place--he just ambled along behind her like a very odd looking dog. That is a kilt he is wearing....scotch tortoise???
There was a performance of the medieval dancing troupe.
They were pretty good. They had lots of personality.

These were the musicians. They were quite good.

This dance, they used swords for. It was quite interesting.
No one lost any limbs or eyes or anything that I am aware of.
I really love how the sword caught the light in this picture.
There. I hope the pictures were enjoyable.
Wow, that brings back memories.
Date: 2007-09-24 11:00 pm (UTC)I danced on the green in front of the Old Globe Theater for five summers. Different costumes and characters.
I've attended a few Renaissance Faires. (Where they justify the belly dancers I have no clue but every fair has them.)
Fairs are now banned from Balboa Park ever since the last one bounced tons of checks.
That fair looks pretty good. Lots of really cool permanent buildings.
I think that little stone building is my favorite too.
