On my way out of town today, I ran into Pat D. He's looking thin and haggard. Triton is KILLING him. He says he cannot last more than two more years there. The only bad feeling I have ever had towards my beloved R.O.C. is that they didn't see the beauty in Pat's soul. He is one of the dearest human beings I have ever known. He would lay down and die for his family and friends if it were required of him--and he has one of the most profound senses of personal honor that I have ever come across.

(((Pat)))

We talked about politics and the downfall of the great dream that was America. Especially we talked about the current regime. I remember when Monkey Boy was elected the first time, Pat told me that GWB was "a good man." Today he said, "He scares me in many ways."

Specifically he mentioned that GWB said the most important job of the president was "to protect the American people." Pat (who is a history/social studies teacher and should know) said this is definitely NOT the most important job. He said the most important job of the president is to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution--and instead, GWB is doing everything in his power to subvert and neutralize it. Alas.

He was listening to George Orwell's 1984 on his portable CD player. "People ask me if I think it [the Orwellian society] could really happen," he said. He laughed. "I tell them it has happened and it IS HAPPENING."

I love that man.

I was sick last night--puked a lot. Something in the Chinese food I had for supper didn't agree. Since I couldn't sleep--I fired up the laptop and meandered around the net until 2 am.

Rich (aka MAF) came on line and I called him a lunatic for being up at 2 a.m. He informed me it was only midnight where he was and called ME a lunatic for being up at 2 am. So I told him I had been worshipping the porcelain goddess, and he said he had plans of doing so after excessive drinking this weekend. Then we talked about the joys of abusing Nyquil when ill.

I had breakfast at Daniels this morning--a local restaurant in Kasson. It was okay. Their food used to be fantastic, but lately "Okay" is about the highest rating I personally have been able to offer them. I suspect the Chinese buffet newly open in Kasson will run them right into the ground.

Ah, well. That's what happens when you let quality slide in order to gain monetarily.

While I was there I made a list of things I ABSOLUTELY had to accomplish today. Here they are:

(1) Go through all my three ring binders--being RUTHLESS, keeping on that which there is an actual possibility I will use.

(2) Do my room inventory (pretty much a pain in the ass since I have to crawl all over the place seeking out their numbers. Bleah.

(3) Write up a "Brag Sheet" for Jay, detailing some of my successes and high points of the year so he can use them in his annual report. (Note: I have finished this already. I only wrote about three things, but I wrote eloquently. :) )

(4) Write up my current "returning" homeroom list of names. (Also done. YAY ME!!)

(5) Organize my files and favorites on my school computer.

(6) Clean and organize my desk drawers

(7) Sack up all the garbage in my room.

(8) Clean out and organize bookshelves, putting like materials together. (ie, all the children's lit stuff in one place, all the science fiction fantasy stuff in one place, all the M,O,&M in another...etc.)

(9) Ask Jesse about his unused (according to rumor) file cabinet (Will be impossible since I am apparently the only one here today.)

(10) Print out and put together my grade book for Susan's stack.

(11) Write a note to Renee asking for lists of Seniors who need to take Senior Seminar and a list of those who will be taking the BST Writing test this year.

(12) Decide which of the classes I will be working on in the fall to work on first this summer.

It looks like this will be my schedule for my classes next year:

Hour One--Homeroom

Hour Two--Writing Workshop, Section A

Hour Three--Writing Workshop, Section B

Hour Four--Prep (I didn't have a prep at all this year, so I feel no guilt about taking one next year.)

Hour Five--Senior Seminar

LUNCH

Hour Six--Children's Literature, Section A

Hour Seven--Children's Literature, Section B

Only the Writing Workshop will be a brand new class for me--and I believe I will spend a lot of time working on the dumb shit that the standardized test people look for--like to, two, and too. Then and than. Who and Whom.

And they will be forced to write at least two essays a week. That will KILL them. But they HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO DO IT.

I will be very, very busy next year.

I also want to completely revamp my homeroom activities. We bonded so well by the end of the year. We need to bring that around right away next year. We'll start off by doing the rope talk for the new kids in the homeroom.

My knee is MUCH better today, but I began using grandpa's old cane yesterday, and that helps unbelieveably.

When I get home today, I need to

(1) Do laundry (that never ending, festering pile of despair)

(2) Clean up the bedroom (again.)

(3) Straighten the bedding which I appear to have torn to pieces in the last two nights.

(4) Sack up the upstairs garbage.

(5) Water the upstairs plants.

(6) Clean the bathroom.

(7) Vaccuum the upstairs rugs.

Tomorrow there is a graphic novel writing class in Zumbrota. I would really like to go. The cost is only $35. And I TEACH that. So it would be very cool to have a little background in it from another teacher. It's only from 9 til noon. Three hours is easy--I can do it standing on my head! (Though I would prefer not to. Stand on my head, that is.)

Also, I am sure this would count as renewal credits. I believe I have to renew my licensure in two years. Bleah.

Unburden your lonely and angry heart here, my dear.

*shoves ECM and Clong toward GG--there you go. Bite ECM and use Kevin on Clong. You'll feel better.
