My Letter to Mr. Doohan
Dear Mr. Doohan,
Thank you.
I regret that I never had the opportunity to thank you in person (always intended to go to one of those Star Trek conventions but never did make it....YET.)
You made my life better. Star Trek gave me hope when I lived in a very dark and grim world. The characters on Star Trek were role models, parental figures who were rational and honorable.
It may seem lame and silly to those who grew up in Beaver Cleaver worlds that a person could feel this strongly about a TV show. However, I know what influenced me, and made me a more tolerant, inclusive, and optimistic person.
It also made me a strong proponent of the space program. Between the duo influences of Star Trek and Robert Heinlein's books, I firmly believed that I would be living on the moon at some point in my life. Sadly, it looks like that isn't going to happen. I hope it will happen in the lifetime of my neices and nephews and students.
Godspeed, my friend. May you find peace and joy in the Ultimate Final Frontier.
Give DeForest Kelley a hug for me when you see him.
Yours truly,
"Cho"
