August 21 through August 26
Aug. 27th, 2020 11:39 amFriday, August 21
We had a nice thunderstorm in the wee hours of morning. I love a good thunderstorm. My niece Cora turned sixteen today. I sent her a text wishing her a very happy birthday.
I watched and deleted some stuff I had recorded on the DVR. I cleaned the litterboxes, did the dishes, and bought a small box of fully cooked shrimp from the Schwan's man.
I made a can of Progresso Clam Chowder for supper.
That's about the extent of my day.
Saturday, August 22
Last night we had a really great thunderstorm with lots of rumbling thunder and lightning.
This morning, Lily brought me over two cinnamon rolls from Mary Groth--the larger one had a caramel drizzle and pecans and the other was smaller and had an almond frosting. Both were delicious. She is so skilled at making those home made cinnamon rolls.
Lily delivered the cinnamon rolls and grabbed my mail. In the mail was the tiny Barbie scale record player that looks so very realistic.
Peaches was almost out of her little Sheba pods, so I ordered two more boxes of 24 for her. She gets a pod for breakfast and a pod for supper. She gets very excited about her soft food! She starts whining for me to go to bed shortly after 8 pm as she wants her soft supper. I generally don't actually GO to bed till 11 or midnight. She races to the bedroom as soon as I turn off the TV and the lights.
I started my laundry today and gathered a bunch of recycling and took it to the bin in the breezeway.
I ate the chili rellano from left over from El Tequila and the container of scalloped potatoes and ham that Lily had brought over for me. It was so salty that it was almost inedible for me. I ate most of it, but I didn't enjoy it. Too dang salty.
Sunday. August 23
I filled my pill caddy and finished the laundry today. I hauled two big bags of garbage and a small bag of cat litter scoopings outside to the garbage bin. I also hauled a large bag of recycling and some broken down boxes to the recycling bin outside.
In the kitchen, I finished cleaning the counter tops, washed the dishes, and cleaned some rotten stuff out of the refrigerator. I wiped down all the spice jars in the spice rack and threw a bunch of them away as they were at least twenty years old, and I NEVER used those particular spices. The counter looks so much nicer now.
As long as I was in the breezeway to take out garbage and recycling, I cleaned the litterboxes again.
It was a lovely sunny day, and I spent a good share of it watching a marathon of episodes of the TV show Yellowstone. Basically, it was the entire series and the season finale. I enjoy watching the show, but most of the characters on the show have no moral compass or common sense and treat each other like complete shit. The finale leads me to believe that at least some of the characters will not survive to next season.
Monday, August 24
Before I did anything else, I used my battery operated sweeper to sweep the kitchen, living room, hallway, and about half of the bedroom and then scrubbed all of it. I dragged the recycling from the bedroom and the cat feeding trays into the breezeway and kitchen.
I steamed some sweet corn and friend hamburger and onions and added pork-n-beans and ate those things for lunch. I unloaded the dish drainer in the kitchen while the hamburger and onions were frying.
I went through all the stuff on the little table next to the recliner and threw away a lot of junk. All of the recycling went into the bin in the breezeway.
For the last few days, I have been reading the book Searching for You by Jody Hedlund. It is the story of a young woman who leaves New York City with her 3 and 5 year old "wards" on an orphan train. She had witnessed a gang murder and feared being stalked by the gang, so she pretended to be younger than she was to get the kids out of New York, planning to disappear into the city of Chicago. It was not "great art," but it was okay. It was a step or two above the Harlequin Romance type books, and had a mild and not too preachy "Christian" point of view. It was even a tiny bit racy in some parts.
Chances are I will not seek out the author again.
Tuesday, August 25
I finished the book at about 2:30 am last night. It has been a long time since I sat up so late to finish a book. Since they fucked with my brain in the hospital last December, it has been very hard for me to focus on reading. It takes me longer to read and is frustrating as I have to reread a lot to be sure I grasp the meaning.
When I got up, I discovered two dried up puddles of puke on the coffee table. Thankfully, none of it got on the pile of doll clothes that I have been sorting on the coffee table.
It was a quiet and peaceful day--very warm and sunny. It was a nice day until later in the day when I got a text from Lily asking me to pray for her cat Missy as she was in terrible pain and she and her friend Ed were taking her to the vet. Later, she called to tell me she had accidentally overdosed Missy with insulin and she nearly died.
She had looked at the syringe wrong and gave Missy about three times the amount she was supposed to give her. Missy started screaming and couldn't walk right. She was dragging herself along the floor by her front paws so she could hide under the bed, and her feces just oozed out of her and got all over under the bed on the carpet. Fortunately, the turds were pretty solid, so there wasn't a ton of runny poop on the carpet. Her friends Ed and Amy happened to be over at her house doing their laundry, so Ed crawled under the bed and brought Missy out and helped Lily clean up the poop.
It was a very narrow escape for Missy as the vet said that she would have died had they delayed getting her in for fifteen minutes. Poor little Missy! She had to stay over night at the vet clinic with an IV drip to bring her blood sugar back up to normal.
Lily was just beside herself, sobbing that she had "almost killed [her] baby" and calling herself stupid.
Poor Lily. She just has so much swirling through her head all the time that she can't keep it all straight.
I comforted her as best I could.
It was good that Ed and Amy were there to help her get Missy to the vet and help her stay calm.
Wednesday, August 26
I got up and took a shower--I felt gross, sweaty, and stinky, so I really needed a shower. I got a call from Lily while I was toweling dry. I called her back as soon as I was dry. She told me she had called the vet clinic, and they told her Missy had survived the night. Later in the day, they called and told her Missy was recovered enough to go home, so she picked her up on the way home from the doctor's office. Her had has been bothering her, so she had it looked at. It was a repetitive injury caused by working for too many hours at a time pulling weeds in her flower garden. So she has to wear a brace to hold it in place for a while.
After she came home, she brought me a piece of fresh peach pie and a container of her homemade potato salad. I had them for supper. Both were very good. I lent her the book I just finished reading and gave her a box of the broth for elderly cats that I had bought for Stewie. Missy isn't eating, and I thought maybe she would find that stuff appetizing. She just wants to lick the juice off her regular moist food, and this is basically all juice. Hope it appeals to her.
Lily is still being really hard on herself about what happened to Missy. I feel bad for her that she is torturing herself with guilt for this.
I called in a grocery order to Lerbergs--I ordered the ingredients for Mexican crescent bake along with some fruit and canned goods, milk, laundry detergent, paper towels, and toilet paper. That will be delivered on Friday.
Waylon, the mailman, brought my mail to me today--there were two packages, both fairly small. One was two dresses for my Chatty Cathy sized dolls. The other was a very small "Elf on a Shelf" that will work perfectly for my LeeAnn dolls. He is about as long as my pointer finger, not including his little pointed red hat. He is really cute, and I am looking forward to setting up Christmas scenes in their "house." They do not have a house at this time, but they do have two sets of bunk beds, a piano, and a dresser. I really want to make these dolls a "house." I have ordered three boy dolls and have decided to get a few more. I was just going to get four boy dolls to match the four girl dolls, but in their big sale, I could not resist this little freckle-faced, brown eyed girl with double pony tails. The instant I saw her, I knew I would call her Josie, and I had to have her. There is an adorable little green-eyed girl with long carrot red hair that I will probably get at some later date. She was not part of the sale. I will probably end up with six each of boys and girls.
I sure wish I had some wood working skills so I could build room boxes for them. They need bedrooms, a living room for the couches and chairs I plan to make for them, and one or two classrooms. I have been accumulating little classroom materials that are made for the American Girl sized dolls, but which will "work" for these little dolls too. I have a whole science room set up with a skeleton, microscopes, and other cool things. I have quite a few "art" materials for this size doll as well.
When I go to bed at night, I lie there thinking about the stuff I want to make for these dolls. I just love them.
A while back, I recorded the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and I watched that before cashing in my chips for the night.
