Didn't do much this week. Except move all of the books around in the school library. And didn't finish so I'll have more to move in two weeks when I go back.
Today I went to my parents' house. My nephew is going back to Berkley tomorrow so they all came down for a BBQ. Got there around noon. Noticed Candy, my parents' dog seemed a bit quiet and sad. My sister's family showed up, then some friends and their dog. But Candy didn't beg at the table much and didn't play much. We had a little nap on the carpet and she seemed to have some labored breathing. Then my Dad tells me she ate some rat poison earlier in the week. He claimed she would have had to eat a lot of it for four days in a row to hurt her. After we got back from her afternoon walk I called poison control. They said take her to the vet. I got the paper with the ingredients from him and googled it. Diphacinone. Nasty stuff. Made my Dad read it and we all went to the Emergency Vet Clinic. Sorta like the people emergency room on a Sat. night. Took 3 hours before they could see her. Meantime my Dad took me back to their house (while my Mom made a downpayment; she didn't want my Dad to see the bill.) Then an hour later they came home without her.
Her blood wouldn't clot. It was supposed to clot after 18-20 seconds. After 2 min. they stopped counting. They're giving her plasma and meds and watching her. Not sure what they can do. I called the tech when I got home and he said she's sedated and stable and as long as she doesn't have a bleed she should be fine.
But if she dies it will kill my Dad. He loves that dog.
I told the clinic that if for any reason my parents say to stop treatment because it's too expensive to call me immediately and I'll give them my credit card so they can continue to treat her.
So please pray that Candy gets better. She'll only 3 1/2 years old and a very sweet, good girl. She was even wagging her tail in the waiting room when the tech was taking her information.
Very sad day.
