I went to Owatonna for groceries this morning--I did not get out of the house as early as I had hoped to, but I was home right around 12:30, so that wasn't too bad.  As soon as I got all my purchases into the house, I started cooking.  I've baked four pieces of chicken which are now chilling in the fridge.  Once they are cool, I will strain  the grease off the top, peel off the skin, and pick the meat off the bones.  I think I will make chicken salad for sandwiches out of it.

In the oven is a lovely big fat meat loaf.  I got hamburger on sale, 1.5 lbs for $2.48.  Its expiration date was today.  Nothing wrong with it at all, so long as you cook it up quick.  I also have a delcious and fragrant beef and barley stew cooking.  In addition to the barley, I have chopped up celery, carrots, rutabaga, potatoes, and onion, all fresh.  I added another can of broth to it as it seemed too thick.

Jim, DeAnn, and Swayze stopped by earlier.  I gave them some cookies and half the chili I had made on Friday.  I like to do my part to raise Swayze....lol.  He is my honorary nephew, after all.

That's about all I have accomplished today.  Before I finish for the night, I have to go down and deal with the last of the laundry and sweep the kitchen floor.  I see no point to sweeping, however, until I am done cooking and doing laundry for the day.  I might have to do a quick touch-up with the vacuum cleaner in the Living and Dining rooms because the cats and I track crumbs and "shit grit" (cat litter) from one room to another.

At Walmart, I wantonly spent $5.00 on a pair of pink slippers.

They are actually slippers for little girls, but my feet are so short and stubby that they fit me just fine.  They are very warm and snug, and I like that.  Also, they are pink.  With purple butterflies on them.  I also picked up Pan's Labrynth and The Day After Tomorrow for $7.50 each.  Cheap enough.  I was tempted to buy the final X men full cast movie at the same price, but I couldn't remember if I already had it or not.

Other than those extravagences, I bought only kitty treats, ziplock bags, and food.

Oh, the excitement that makes up my life is boundless.

Yesterday she made us a roast chicken. It was absolutely delicious. I got a carbon copy of dinner to take home. I'll eat it tonight even though the spinach has freezer burn and wasn't that great.

Since the chicken was so cheap ($0.99 lb.) she bought a second one and boiled it up with veggies for soup stock, then picked the meat off the bones for whatever. She makes chicken a la King and uses it for salad. Adds it to the soup. Other stuff.

Ah for the days I had time to do this too. I really want to retire. I want to stay home and clean my house and cook real food. And I want to sleep in every morning.

Today I've done two loads of laundry and one load of dishes. I'm hoping for one more of each before bed. I'd also like to tie up some junk mail/paper for the blue bin. And maybe cut down some more boxes and move them out to recycle.

I have to go shopping for food for this week. I've already made my list. But it's nappy time and the dog will be napping with me for an hour or so. He sure likes nap time. Sometimes he comes to get me when he thinks it's time.

Day After Tomorrow...is that the climate change movie with the people taking refuge in the New York City Public Library? I liked that movie. Didn't see Pan's Labyrinth but heard it was good.

I'm making progress in the kitchen. I'll be doing the floors sometime this week. I still need to clear out the refrigerator of science experiments. And I have to find a box to store the Tupperware I no longer need right now.

Next room, probably the bathroom, it will be a quick fix. Then...the bedroom. It will take quite a while but I need to get the old nightstands out to a consignment shop and move the new one in at least temporarily. (That will help start clearing the dining room where I have two nightstands sitting right now one going out and one coming in.) The two new stands both need work, but they can sit in place until I have time to really work on them. It could take years. In the mean time I'll use their spaces with plastic bins since the "shelves" have holes from holding electronic components (they're old stereo cabinets) and they don't have drawers, just doors.

I have to get up early on Monday and Wed. this week so I can go to the Ed Ctr to get a TB test and then have it read. I'm due. Every four years we have to get one. Maybe I'll be retired by the next one but I don't think so. 6-8 years. If I live that long.
