Sunday--FIRST day of 2012
Jan. 2nd, 2012 12:46 amNew Year's Eve was a quiet one for me. Mom and I had purchased Papa Murphy's pizzas--an all-meat one for her and a vegetarian gourmet for me. I don't really care for meat on my pizza. We feasted on pizza and some "bubbly," and by "bubbly," I mean diet Ginger Ale. Ginger Ale is one of my favorite beverages...and mom is a complete tee-totaller, so anything alcoholic would be completely out of the question.
We watched some show on television--can't remember what it was at the moment--nothing too thrilling, I am sure.
Later, I went down to my lair and worked on my yearly plans and goals for the new year. I have my life divided up into categories. Some of the goals are on-going and haven't changed much from one year to the next.
In no particular order, my categories and goals for this year are as follows:
Creative
- Finish Matthew’s quilt
- Finish Erik’s quilt
- Write 1,500 words per day
- Write a story through to the end.
- Work with fimo to create doll-scale “play” food
- Continue to work on doll clothing
Domestic
- Keep organizing my things.
- Pare down possessions further—chose three things a day to donate, sell, or dispose of.
- Spend a minimum of 90 minutes per day keeping my living area in appropriate condition.
Educational
- Work on my Spanish language skills
- Read books on writing and work through the exercises
- Continue to enrich and expand my vocabulary.
- Read both fiction and non-fiction books.
Familial
- Develop rich, loving relationships with my siblings and their families.
- Work on getting family gatherings established monthly or bimonthly.
- Work on specific things to make my nieces and nephews feel loved and special.
Financial
- Organize all sources of debt; figure out payment plans to eliminate it.
- Get the deadbeats out of my house and go after them for the money they owe me.
Interpersonal
- Maintain and enrich friendships with DeAnn and Jim and Ingrid and Jim.
- Keep up with doll groups email and friends and former students on Facebook.
Physical
- Eat three healthy meals a day, using the old WW plan for guidance
- Work exercise into my days
- Take my meds as scheduled
- Continue to wean myself off anti-depressants and pain killers.
Spiritual
- Keep a prayer journal
- Pray at meal times.
I think that about covers all my bases. If I think of any more that I forgot, I will add them on.
I didn't accomplish as much today as I had hoped. I did get all three meals eaten and the meds taken pretty much at their proper times. Mom and I had leftover pizza and pumpkin pie for lunch. I had toasted pumpernickel bread spread with butter and cheese whiz for dinner. I was going to grab a banana for dessert, but I forgot.
During the day, I watched several episodes of CSI: SVU. When Mom came home from church we ate and then watched Ever After. I love that retelling of Cinderella. I used to show it all the time when I taught children's literature. That was a great class.
While we watched TV, I finished two more doll sweaters made from socks. I began a third one, but only got to the point of sewing on the sleeves.
There was a marathon of Once Upon a Time episodes from 6 till 10 pm. It is a very odd show--it intrigues me, but it is also on the raggedy edge of being ridiculous and insulting to the intelligence. Hopefully, the powers that be will stop fucking around and pay attention to plot consisitency and character deelopment.
I'm pretty sleepy, so I guess I will head to bed. My legs are very uneasy again, so I will probably take a mini sip of Nyquil to help me fall asleep. The wind has been howling all day and it is till right now.

Date: 2012-01-02 08:18 am (UTC)I was watching Once Upon a Time but have lost interest. I am, however, watching Grimm on Friday Nights. It may be darker but I think it is done much better.
Funny, but the librarians were discussing our TV watching and we all mentioned the same programs: Once Upon a Time (but sporadically), Grimm, Person of Interest, and Big Bang Theory. How odd that the same programs appeal to all of us. Quite a few of us watch CSI, The Mentalist, NCIS and Castle too.
I find the only way I can really accomplish a New Year's Resolution is to pick just one and then concentrate on that. I started years ago with recycling. After a year of diligence, it stuck. Then I gave up high fructose corn syrup. Then it was getting 8+ hours of sleep every night. This year it's going to be water and exercise. I know that's two. But I am going to try to drink more water with no specific amount and try to do more exercise with no specific type, amount or day. I think that I'll be more likely to accomplish that than to say 8 glasses a day and 30 min. three days a week. Just doing more than I do now of either will be an accomplishment. I don't need to add the stress of failing a resolution to my already stressed life. Besides, one per year successfully accomplished adds up year after year.
I think your choices are great.
I'd like to suggest throwing the squatters out asap and then suing their asses off for back rent up at the top. Of course, if you just turn the house over to the bank, they'll throw them out for you.
Someone in New York won $206 million dollars.
I do not live in New York.
*sigh*
