Last night I dreamed a music video. I wish I could remember all the words because it was a good song! The phrase "It's just another day in Michigan" kept repeating like a chorus. I used to go to Michigan a while back. It's a beautiful state, but the roads are shit and whole neighborhoods are abandoned with boarded shut windows. Anyhow--the song was about this guy--not real young, but not old ...either--who hasn't worked in a long time. The video starts off with him leaving a tiny old travel trailer (like this: 031511VintageCampers_01_rect54 0.jpg only much more beat up and a sort of red/rust color) and climbing in his equally old and beat u pickup. He's carrying a baseball bat, glove and ball when he leaves the trailer. The song goes on how every day he gets up and gets ready to go looking for a job. Then he's in the truck and driving through those sad empty neighborhoods with the b oarded up windows and the grass waist high.
Then he goes by the old auto plants and the song is about how his dad and grandpa had both worked there, but now the places are abandoned and nothing is made there except grafitti by vandals.
The song goes on about how there is no work to be found and how his wife took the kids and moved in with her parents and how he still loves her but can't take care of her. Then the song goes on and he is in McDonalds singing about how he has a cup of coffee and a dollar fries for lunch and on his birthday or Christmas he will splurge with a hot apple pie there.
Then in the afternoon he pulls into an old rundown park with rusty swings and a slide and gets out with the bat and ball and glove. A homeless guy--a friend of his--gets off a bench and they play catch for a while then one pitches and the other hits. And he sings about how it's just another day in Michigan and how maybe tomorrow he'll go fishin' again.
It was really a good song--made me feel sad about how many people's lives are completely screwed up right now. Too bad I have no musical talent. Maybe it could have been a grammy winner. LOLSee More

Date: 2012-01-08 08:34 pm (UTC)Last night I had a great idea too. Not dreaming. On the way home from my parents' driving on the freeway. I have no idea what prompted it.
You know those microphones that generate sound that people with no voice boxes due to cancer surgery hold against their throats to make a sound so they can talk? It's all monotone. Well, I thought, why not add a wheel as a variable pitch switch so while they're holding it they can move it up and down for inflection? That way they can make their voice to questions and stuff. I have no idea if any of the manufacturers already do this. If they don't they should. It is so simple.

Now if you can get that music video out of your head, you've still got a chance.
