Giant spoon with cherry
Jun. 18th, 2012 01:36 amYes, as a matter of fact, there IS a sculpture of a giant bent spoon with a cherry on it. It is sitting in a body of water which is more a pond than a river, however.
There it is, in all its glory. It has been part of a scupture garden at the Walker Art Center in the Cities since I was in high school and maybe before that.
It is huge. I have seen it in person. Never been a huge fan of it, myself, as I prefer my art to have some kind of meaning. But it is an interesting and odd thing.

Date: 2012-06-18 05:31 pm (UTC)Sometimes I look at this stuff and I say "I could do that, even better than that. What doesn't someone pay *me* hundreds of thousands of dollars from some lame piece of public art?"
A "what were they thinking?" piece of public art.
We've got that here too. Also a few pieces that are nice.
I think one of the more meaningful ones I've seen was a huge metal sculpture of Sarah Palin's head that was a pizza oven. The fire was in her open mouth, there was an opening on the back for cooking (her head being hollow and brainless naturally) and the smoke came out the top of her head. Now *that* is what I call public art that says something.
It found a home in Chicago. Priceless.
