Desperately dry corn
Jul. 13th, 2012 12:56 amThis corn is growing in very sandy soil north of Albert Lea--you can see exactly where the sand is by where the corn is completely dried up and yellow. The green corn is also terribly thirsty--you can tell by how dissicated the leaves are and how they stand straight up rather than arching out and down like corn usually does.
It has rained a ton up in northern Minnesota and it has rained some up by the Twin Cities, but down here, it has been weeks since we have had a nice shower. We need ran very bad right now. The corn has tassled and the silks are popping out of the ears. We need the rain to rinse the pollen from the tassle down to the corn cob which is developing the kernals now.
