Writer's Block: Infamous
Dec. 7th, 2008 06:31 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]There have been a lot of them....
The day JFK was shot is the first memorable world event day I remember. I was only in third grade. But I remember Mrs. Palen calling Mrs. Wayne to the door of the classroom and whispering something to her in the hallway. Then I heard her shriek and sob. She came in crying and told us the president had been shot. They sent us home early and there was no school until after the funeral.
The next day I remember is the Terrorist attack on the Olympics in Munich (I think it was). I was in Junior High then.
I remember Martin Luther King being assassinated, and Robert Kennedy.
I remember the Jonesboro holocaust and the deaths of Elivs Presley, John Lennon, and Jim Croce.
I remember the fiery end of the Waco cult and the Oklahoma City bombing.
I remember the Challenger Exploding--and I remember, long before that, watching Apollo 13's progress on tv. I was sure those astronauts would never see the earth again, and was so happy when they did. I remember seeing John Glenn go around the earth on TV in elementary school, and I remember when the first man walked on the moon.
I suppose the most memorable one of all was the 911 attacks on the World Trade Center. Another "day of infamy."
