I am dreaming constantly lately.

Last night I dreamed I was taking care of my sister's day care kids--she hasn't done day care in about 4-5 years, so all those kids would be really big by now.  I dreamed that my sister had to go somewhere, and I was going to watch the kids during nap time.  One of the kids, a little spitfire named Avery, was a handful back in the day.  I frequently helped my sister with things in her day care in the summer while I was teaching and a lot after I retired, so I knew her day care kids pretty well.

Anyhow, I had settled the kids down to nap and was doing something in the kitchen, probably cleaning up after their lunch.  I heard something outside and looked out the window to discover that Avery was out in the yard, clad only in socks and underpants, rolling around in the muddy grass.  It was winter in my dream, and there was snow and wetness everywhere.  I felt my heart drop when I saw Avery out there half naked.

I had to drag her into the house because she did not want to come in.  She wanted to play.

She was absolutely filthy.  Her face, arms, neck, hair, back, legs--everything was covered with ground in dirt.  I sat on the lineoleum of the kitchen floor and started scrubbing her with a wet wash cloth.  I had to really scrub to get the dirt off her. I got her top half cleaned up and the wash cloth was so filthy that I asked Ella (who actually was never in my sister's day care--she was one of the kids I worked with in the Refuge) to rinse out the wash cloth and give it back to me.  She whined like I was asking her to scrub an elephant with a toothbrush.  She was always a bit of a whiner.

I snapped at her and she grudgingly rinsed the wash cloth.  I flipped Avery over onto her back and started scrubbing her filthy legs and wondered if I needed to scrub her bottom too, since her underpants were also caked with muck.  And that's when I woke up.

What a weird dream.  But, Avery acted just like REAL Avery would normally act.  She was a funny little kid.  Very bright, but odd.  She was one of those kids who ate things that were not food--bugs, leaves from plants, little plastic beads, paper....anything she could get her little paws on.  She was as cute as a button.  But odd.

Just a note about this dream--logically, it should have been set in my sister's old house, which is where she operated her day care.  But instead it was set in my aunt and uncle's house in Albert Lea--the house they lived in when I was probably 8-10 years old.  Many, many years ago.  It surprises me that that house still exists in my brain and that I recognized it.

Then I had another dream the same night. I dreamed I had to go to the Lutheran church to see a play.  Now the Lutheran church in my town is a shit hole full of racist assholes.  The minister degrades Muslims from the pulpit and told my niece during their confirmation class that if she saw a Muslim walking down the street, she should cross to the other side of the road because that Muslim "might kill her."  Fucker.  He is also very misogynistic and homophobic.  I almost stood up and walked out after the shitty comments he made about Muslims during my nephew's confirmation ceremony.  I wish I had in retrospect.  I wish I had yelled out something judgmental about his racism and lack of brotherly love for his neighbor.  But I didn't. And I have since sworn NEVER to go into that building again, so I don't know why I was there.

The play was delayed, and so I sat in a pew waiting, and apparently church was being delayed, so the minister (who wasn't the real minister of that church) decided to start church service.  For an unknown reason, the minister called me to the front to read something from the Old Testament.  While I was standing there, the play started going on the opposite side of the church.  I don't know what the play was about--just that the Virgin Mary was in it, and she was dressed in very opulent attire.  It was very short.

Then I woke up from that dream.  It seems like there were some animals involved in that dream too, but that is very fuzzy.  The church was also not the actual Lutheran church but something very different.  The real Lutheran church has a huge stained glass window in the front of the church and the figure of Jesus has blonde hair.  I remember snickering about that with my sister Joni during Caleb's confirmation.

I have bizarre and very detailed dreams.

When I got up, I went into the laundry room and folded my last load then dragged it into the bedroom and put the clean clothes away.  After that, I used my electric broom to sweep the bedroom and polished my large dresser with the huge mirror with Orange Glow which really brings wooden furniture to life.  It took me about an hour and a half to polish every inch of that dresser (except for the very top shelf because I couldn't reach it without a step stool, and after my recent fall, I was afraid to climb up on anything to polish it).  I took everything off the dresser and dusted all of the items as well.  Everything was extremely dusty.  Neither Cynthia nor Cora are good "dusters"--they just spray a little Orange Glow on a rag and swipe around the things sitting on the furniture.  They never move anything, polish, then replace the items.

My shoulder still is bothering me a lot from the fall and the previous repetitive motion injury, so by the time I finished that dresser, I was done.  Tomorrow, I will do the other dresser which is tall and about 1/3 of the width of the long one and the bedside table.  There are two other small wooden things in there too--I may be able to do all of them tomorrow.

I intend to take everything out of the bedside table and reorganize the drawers.  I am also hoping to scrub the floor.  It needs it bad.

I microwaved my leftover steamed dumplings for lunch.  They were delicious.  Stewie insisted on eating some of the sausage inside the dumpling.  He only ate about a half teaspoon worth, but I am thankful for every morsel he eats.  Tonight, it appeared that his belly was a bit larger--not sunk in as it has been, but slightly plumper.  That was a glorious sight.  He isn't eating tons, but he is eating.  And he loves his fountain.

Last night the weather people said we'd get snow today but it would be less than an inch.  It started snowing after 1 pm this afternoon, and is still snowing now at 9:07 pm.  I am sure we have at least 3 inches and probably more than that.  Ugh.

Apparently it is not very nice out there on the road.  There was a head on collision resulting in at least one fatality near Manchester which is only about 15 minutes from here.  That made me worried as my sister in law comes home from that direction.  I called and discovered she had made it safely home, so I was glad.

This afternoon, I called the therapist that my niece Cora has been seeing. She wasn't there, but I left a message.  I thought she'd call me back this afternoon at some point, but she didn't.  Hopefully tomorrow.  I have to get this depression and PTSD under control.

That's about it for today.  Nothing too exciting going on in my house today.  Stewie had several brief cuddling sessions with me today.  He is still so thin...but not as thin as he was.
