Slept till about 10:30 today...mainly because I did not go to sleep until after 3:30 am.  Mom was in and out of my room, doing laundry this morning.  I have quite a pile of laundry myself--I will probably work on it tomorrow.  It was gloomy and rained most of the day--not much--just a day-long drizzle.

Thunder and lightning woke me up early this morning--about 5 am, I think.  I was glad to see it because we need rain really bad.  My mom's lawn has turned brown and crispy where there is no shade.

DeAnn called me today and asked if I wanted to meet her, Jim, and Swayze in Owatonna for lunch at 1 pm.  I said I had no money, but I DO still have the check she wrote me for the cell phone.  I said I would give it back to her if they would pay for my meal.  She said we'd work it out.

We made plans to meet at El Tequila, which, in my opinion is the best Mexican restaurant in Owatonna.  It used to be that I liked  Gracie's better than any other--but when Mommasita quit cooking, it just wasn't as good.  El Tequila has the best beans and rice I have EVER had at a Mexican restaurant, and their flan is superior to any other flan I have ever tasted!

Oh, and their tamales?  They taste just about exactly like the tamales that the little Mexican abuelas used to make for our pot lucks when I worked at the migrant school.

I got there first, so I read my book while I waited.  It is really good, though some of the sexual stuff in there is a bit extreme.  It wasn't long before they arrived.  I got the enchilada and tamale lunch special.  I must have been extremely hungry because everything on my plate tasted delicious.  I really wanted flan, but they had no flan today.  Extreme disappointment.  But, DeAnn had ordered fried ice cream, and they brought that with four spoons.  Swayze ate the cherry with great happiness and then he ate all the whipped cream.  LOL.  He is the cutest little bug.  And he sure seemed to enjoy his whipped cream!  I ate a little bit of the fried ice cream, but it isn't my favorite thing in the world.

We had a nice chat.  I was on my way home again by three.  I didn't go anywhere else because I didn't have any money and didn't feel like just wandering around in a store.  I can hardly wait for that first unemployment check to come--though I am afraid it will mostly go for bills.  Sigh.

I am almost out of chocolate--indeed I WILL be out of chocolate tomorrow...and that will be a Very Bad Thing.  I suppose I will have to resort to making chocolate chip cookies or some kind of brownie if I can't get some chocolate at the store.  *sniff*... what a low depth I have sunk to.

When I got home, mom told me how she had vacuumed upstairs and in the porch.  She had a couple of brainstorms for how to make the porch look a little more organized, and they were good ideas.  She had started putting together the microwave stand which she said was a really nice one.  I had really wanted it down in my room as it is big enough to hold quite a lot of stuff AND it is high enough for my TV to sit on.  But, she didn't want to move the TV stand that was down here.  She didn't want to move the old zenith tv that isn't compatible with digital TV either, but she did put that in the laundry room--on top of the old sewing machine that doesn't work.  Sigh.  I was hoping I could put my dorm fridge and my microwave in there, but eh...I can use the fridge and microwave in the family room.  It would be great to have another file cabinet in there though--I have so much stuff that needs filing.

I didn't get any work done in my room today--I spent most of the afternoon reading my book.

Mom made delicious buttermilk pancakes for supper.  I have been hungry for buttermilk pancakes for some time.  I should post the recipe up here--but I do not know it by heart.  I know there isn't much to it, but they are so light and fluffy and delicious.

I even like the leftover ones cold with butter and jelly on them!

We were watching Pawn Stars in the basement--then she started working on her computer and I was reading my book.  Then, I got really sleepy and fell asleep.  When I woke up, the TV was off and I was sitting in the recliner all alone.  It wasn't 10 pm yet, but it was close.  I could hear Mom rattling around upstairs in the bathroom, so I got myself a bottle of water and went into my room to take my pills.

I was on Facebook trying to play the facebook version of Scrabble, but the damned thing kept making my computer freeze up and I'd have to close the window and then open it up again.  If this keeps up I am going to have to quit playing the game, even though I find it enjoyable to flex my logic and vocabulary and strategy skills.

I can't believe it is already September.  I am already extremely bored of being unemployed.

This weekend, I have to work on getting the current bunch of my stuff that's in bags and boxes in my room sorted out and put away.  There is very little left in the porch at this time.  I will be very glad when it is all dealt with in there.  Then my anxiety about THAT can be put to rest.

I have so many pictures  I want to share on here, but I haven't had the energy to down load them and put them on my flickr account.  I would really like to get the paid version of Livejournal, but I can't afford it right now.  Then I think I can upload my pictures directly onto my journal.

I guess I have nothing else of great import to record.  Time to read a bit and then go to sleep.

Hi, I was checking out someone who friended me to make sure I was willing to be friended (make sense? ;) ) and I usu check out their friends to get a feel for them. I saw your post about waiting on your first UI check and had to write. I work for LA UI agency in the call center and frequently recommend this site for online job searches: www.linkup.com - it's NOT LinkedIn, the networking site. It's just an aggregator site, you enter your zip and the range you're willing to go and it goes out to the websites of companies in your area w help wanted pages and lists them out for you. You follow the link back to the employer's website so you can check them out to see if you're really interested and apply from their site. LinkUp doesn't require any personal info so you aren't going to get slammed w spam. The value of it comes from the fact that you get listings you might not otherwise happen across. I've only verified it in the Baton Rouge area but the jobs were legit here. And you can use it across the states, so if you decide to look for jobs in Phoenix AZ, you just enter the zip code and sit in the comfort of your home checking out jobs some miles away.

Hope this helps and that you find what you want soon. Like I tell people on the phone, being unemployed ain't for sissies.

Good luck!
Michelle

That is excellent.

Can you also specify the job you're looking for? We have some unemployed school librarians locally that are looking for jobs.

Yes, you can put in key words to narrow the search. In La we have a website that teachers and school emps use, something like Louisianateachers.net, I'll check on Tuesday when I'm back in the office but your state may have something similar.

Good luck to you, I wasn't unemployed long but it sucked while I was there ;)

That's not necessary.

I still have a job. I have a friend that doesn't.

Yes, we do have a jobs list for our state. I just want to give her more options for job searching outside of education. I've passed the link on to her.

Thanks so much.
