Cynthia's Barbie bedroom
Feb. 20th, 2012 10:05 pmThe wall paper is some wild pink shelf paper Cynthia got out of a "free" box at a garage sale. The ceiling is dark turquoise colored computer paper, and the rest of the ceiling is a scrap of wall paper border that also came out of the free box at that garage sale.
The carpet is a piece of pale pink felt that is left over from making '50s poodle skirts for another cousin's little girls, long ago.
The chair is a photo frame from Hobby Lobby which I bought for my own collection, but since I have so little room, I decided to give it to her--it just seemed to fit in that wildly pink room.
The bed is a Tettly Tea box upholstered with pink felt and a bit of fiberfill. The bottom sheet is some left over pink heart fabric that's been laying around for a while. The pillows were made of felt and fiber fill then I made the pillow cases out of matching fabric and a bit of another fabric that has tiny hearts and set off with a little ribbon trim and bows.
She took it home with her that day--I also made a two sided coverlette out of the pink heart and red heart fabric and put ribbons on it too. It was horrifically gaudy, but she loved it. I wasn't able to finish it before she took the room home, so I gave it to her the following Sunday. If I ever get over to their house, I will take another picture of it.
We worked on the chair some more too--We covered the photo hole with pink felt and put a tiny "cameo" of a rose in the middle. We made a couple of throw pillows as well for the chair. I'd like to do a braided rug for the front of the fire place, but haven't done it yet.

She will always treasure this house she made with her Aunt Cheryl. Making something beautiful out of nothing. There's also a life lesson there.
