I am beginning to worry that she has some sort of underlying issue that is causing her to put on so much weight--like a thyroid issue or something.
She has recently thinned down a bit--since I've been spending more time in my room with them.
I don't want her to suffer from any issues from being so overweight--don't know what else to do. I tried limiting the food but Stewie and Peaches were withering away and Tyger seemed more obsessed than ever about the food.
So, now they have open dishes but the food is low-calorie.
Simple. She's the little pig of the group. She's obviously getting more than her fair share of the food.
I have no idea how you monitor this with cats.
With dogs, you simply put the food out and then take it away. Nibblers learn to eat it or lose it.
Now there are also timed release food thingies, but again there's no way to ensure that Peaches and Stewie are getting their share.
Now they have this puzzle box for dog treats that makes the dogs work for their dinner, but that's mostly for bored dogs, not fat dogs.
With Candy I just stopped giving her treats and Ramses saw that she got plenty of exercise. She had a nice little hour glass figure when my parents got back. I'm sure my Dad is putting the pounds back on her again.
Do they all eat from their own dishes or share? If they have their own, you could give Tyger low cal and the rest regular. If they graze freely, not much you can do except get that girl a treadmill.

Date: 2012-05-26 12:07 am (UTC)I've thought about a kitty hamster wheel. She does like to play and chase things and she seems pretty adept at leaping and hopping.
