Sorry--no proverbs tonight
Oct. 21st, 2008 07:59 pmWell I had my appointment...Saw my x-rays. There is no cartilage left in my left knee--it is bone on bone and lots of arthritis. The ortho guy said he was not surprised it had been hurting. The right knee still has some cushion left, but it also has a lot of damage. There is no doubt that I will be going in for knee replacements eventually.
He did give me a shot of cortizone in each knee. I was a little worried as I had heard from a couple of people that it would really hurt--but I had also heard from my buddy Pappy that it would be uncomfortable, but not anything to be afraid of.
In fact, when they injected the left knee, I felt only the poke of the needle and a litte pressure as they pumped in the goop.
The right knee had a couple of *pang-zings* like when the dentist injects a deep novocaine in your mouth. The were quickly over, though, and I wonder if that knee didn't hurt more because the needle had something to go through whereas the other was just bone.
The needle was enormous--unlike my usual curiosity about medical procedures being done to me, I did not watch as they stuck it in. I felt a little woozy during the procedure, but not panicked nor tense.
When it was over, the nurse gave me my flu shot too.
So I am full of needle holes tonight.
LOL
My knees actually felt pretty good at school once I got there. Tonight they are achey. They feel sort of like a nagging toothache--only in my knees.
The doctor said they would be worse before they were better, and that tomorrow would be the day that this worsening would happen as the painkiller they injected with the cortizone would wear off in 6 hours or so.
What hurts the most right now is where I got the flu shot--I feel sort of achey in my arm and in my upper back. And I feel a little feverish as well.
I think I am going to stay home from school tomorrow--it is only a half-day with kids and there will be meetings all afternoon--I have been needing a day to just stay home and take stock of my own reality. I need to figure some things out--set some goals--perhaps do some soul searching and prioritizing. Also, I have some reading to do for my therapist that I never seem to get around to doing.
I'm feeling pretty drained right now, and I think a good night's sleep would be the best thing for me.
bleah.
I'll do two chapters of Proverbs tomorrow if I stay home from school, since I am skipping one tonight.
I really need a good back rub right now.
