One of my friends on the Yahoo Barbie Group asked about my ghost encounter.  So, I wrote it all up, and now Yahoo is being a massive asspain and won't let me access it.  So I'm posting it here, so I don't have to retype it all again later.  I'll just come in here and copy and paste!

(Yes I am extremely lazy.)

Oh, my.

Well, it happened when I was still in college, in 1975 (I remember the year because it was the year my sister Kim graduated from High school).  I had a boyfriend who was from Nashville, Tennessee.

Well, I had never met his parents, so over spring break, I went down to their house in Nashville and stayed for about a week.  The first night I was there, I had a very strange feeling--you know how you feel if you are lying on the couch or something, and someone comes and stands RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE?  Your eyes are closed, but you can sense the person, somehow.

Well, I had that feeling while I was lying in bed.  I wasn't really afraid, but it was a very uncomfortable feeling.

Well, the next night, they decided to move me upstairs into my boyfriend's bedroom and put HIM in the guest room (I don't know why).  In the middle of the night, when it was almost pitch dark, I woke up with the feeling that someone was staring at me.

When I looked around, I saw a slender woman in an old-fashioned, long white brocade dress sitting cross-legged next to the door.  Her hair was up in an old fashioned looking bun, and her skin was very very pale.

She was floating about 1 1/2 feet off the ground.

Well, you'd think I'd scream and freak out.  But I still wasn't afraid.  I was disturbed--but mostly I felt puzzled and skeptical.  "This is NOT what it appears to be," I kept thinking.  "It's dark, and I am sleep deprived, and I'm nervous about meeting my boyfriends parents and making a good impression on them.  This has some perfectly logical explanation--which does not involve it being a woman in an old fashioned dress floating 1 1/2 feet about the floor!"

So, I stared at it, and stared at it, and tried to figure out what it really was.  During this time, it just hovered there, staring back at me--no emotion of any kind on its face.  I might add that I didn't have my glasses on, so I couldn't see fine detail.  But I COULD see clearly enough to know it was a lady.

After a while, I began to wonder if it might not be the sheets that my boyfriend's mother had stripped off the bed in order to give me fresh sheets.  She had draped them over the chair by his desk (which was on the other side of the room, but I thought maybe she had moved the chair to have the sheets closer to the door so she could just grab them and wash them in the morning or something without waking me up.)

Finally, I convinced myself that this is what I was really seeing, and turned away from it, faced the wall, and went back to sleep.  I could feel that "Someone-watching-me" for a long time before I finally fell asleep.

The next morning, the chair was by the desk.  NOTHING was by the door.

I told NO ONE about this as I didn't want them to think I was crazy.  I told myself that lack of sleep and nervousness had made me hallucinate this person.  And I saw nothing else out of the ordinary the rest of the time I was there.

HOWEVER....

On the last night that I was in Nashville, my boyfriend took me to a park where they have a scale replica of the Parthenon (I was an art major as well as an English major, so he thought I'd love it and I did.)  We sat on a swinging bench and talked about everything and nothing for a long time.

Finally he said, "I'm really glad the visit went well and nothing happened."

I said, "Yeah, I think your parents liked me."

He said, "No.  I mean---nothing--weird.":

Then he explained to me that kids would never stay at his house while he was growing up because they often saw a tall pale woman, dressed in an old fashioned dress, walking down the hallway, but being a foot off the ground!

So, then, I freaked out and told him what I had seen and then we both freaked out a little!

Months later, when I was at my parents house, talking to him on the phone, the ghost came up in conversation and I said something nasty about the ghost.  I don't remember exactly what, but I know I called her a "bitch"--no sooner had the words left my mouth than there was a terrible CRASH upstairs in my bedroom, and my mom came flying out of her bedroom to investigate.

Everything that was on my dresser was all over the floor.  As if someone had swept it off.  NOTHING on my sister's dresser was moved at all.  And my windows were far away from my dresser--and there was no wind.

So, that is the story of my ghostly encounter.

Freaky, huh?
