The First Weekend of the New School Year.

Well, the first couple days of workshop went well. I'm already tired. LOL. I needed the weekend to recover--after only two days. Of course, it was a lot of talking and sitting work. I find that more tiring than teaching.
I got some of my stuff ready for my classes and other forms printed off for my homeroom kids for scheduling. I will have nine kids total--I'll get Cody, Tyler, Drew, and Zach back. I'll have five new kids. I hope they all meld well. I lost Christine and Lisa as they graduated last year. Monique is going into a different homeroom as Jay thinks that would be best for her. (I am a little too soft--she needs someone a little tougher.)
Not much else to say about school...I'm looking forward to seeing the kids on Tuesday. I love summer, but I do miss working with my kids. They give me a kind of energy that I can't get any other way.
Yesterday I spiffed up my house, especially downstairs. I had a bunch of clutter piling up. I don't want it to get out of control just because school is starting up.
I had a sinkful of dishes (mostly knives and glasses) to wash, and I sacked up a lot of trash. My butt has been dragging both today and yesterday--not used to being back on the "school schedule" yet. I'll adjust soon.
Jim and DeAnn asked me if I wanted to go out for supper with them last night--after Ingrid had asked if I wanted to go to see the new Mummy movie and go out for supper. Then Ingrid called back later and said she was too tired to go to the movie, and just wanted to do supper. So, I suggested we all go to supper together. We went to the Chinese Buffet by Walmart.
Josue was a little fussy in the car on the way to town--giving out a few blood-curdling squeals of discontent--but he was fine in the restaurant. He is so much fun to watch when he eats. He shoves the food in his mouth then says, "MMmmmmmmmmmm." It's just so darn cute. He's especially fond of watermelon and strawberries. And he loves rice. He loves it when I pretend to eat up his fingers and giggles like a little fiend.
Ingrid brought me some Barbie sized wicker furniture that she bought at a garage sale--I didn't have the heart to tell her I already had two or three sets exactly like it--she thought she had done such a wonderful thing. And it WAS wonderful--very sweet of her to buy it for me. Also, it was in excellent shape, and I have a TON of Barbies who need places to sit.
I rode home with Ingrid in her VW beetle convertible with the top and windows down. It was almost chilly. But it was refreshing.
When I got home I watched a couple episodes of CSI: SVU. I am madly in love with Elliot Stabler. LOL.
Then, I chatted with a couple of friends on Instant Messenger and went to sleep. And speaking of sleep--I'm feeling ready for a nap right now.
*yawn*
My two big goals for today are doing laundry and getting my bills paid. I also need to clean out the fridge. I bought some chicken which did not get cooked, and I am sure it is no good. Chicken doesn't last long.

Up and a movin'
Date: 2008-08-24 08:06 pm (UTC)Sorry about the IM problems; mine keeps timing out or hanging. I hope that doesn't keep happening.
Love,

another great entry.
Date: 2008-08-25 01:51 am (UTC)I, too, need to clean out my refrigerator.
I did a test run on the dishwasher with the newly installed garbage disposal hose adaptor and underneath my sink it is dry as a bone. Success! I installed a dishwasher!
I'm debating whether to put everything back or wait and tile it and then put everything back.
I have so much to do and only two days left. And I still don't know where I'll be assigned.
I think I'll go turn the water on to soak the ground. I want to plant grapes on Tuesday so I need to soak the spots for digging today and tomorrow. It got hot today and that zapped my energy. I hope it cools off a little by Tuesday or I'm doomed.
Still no word where I'll be reporting on Wed.
My sister has finally given her deadbeat husband an ultimatum; he gets a job after he recovers (he's going in for knee replacement (2nd) Tuesday) or he can move out and live with his mother. She is NOT supporting him anymore.
High time. *I think it's because both boys are now in college; one out of the house in Berkley and one almost moving out. My fear is the oldest is taking after Dad.
He's had problems with drinking, with gambling. She's now got him on a tight leash. She only gives him enough money for whatever needs purchasing (and he never gives her back any change) and he has a credit card he is only to use for groceries. She checks the statements. I hope she's put a very low limit on that card so he can't cash out or charge any big ticket items. My mother told me she opened a separate checking account in her name only. Good. He is a deadbeat. He's been living off her for years. She finally got a good job 5 years ago and just got a 5% raise. She commutes an hour a day and works weekends doing cake decorating lessons. She's doing everything she can to make ends meet and he sits around watching TV and swilling beer. He's tapped my parents for "loans" several times. He never pays them back. They've told him no more money. My mother is afraid he'll divorce my sister and then sue for alimony. I think she should put the house in her name and make him sign a "quit claim".
Hearing all this makes me so happy (justified?) that I never got married.

Date: 2008-08-27 01:55 am (UTC)I would not put up with his shit for two seconds. But that's why I am single, I guess.
LOL.
The more I observe my sister's marriages, the happier I am that I never married.
I miss the kids...but the heartache and ill-treatment, I can do without.
Re: another great entry.
Date: 2008-08-27 11:25 pm (UTC)I have dogs. No need for a sitter. They appreciate you, wag thanks, never complain and if they're being pissy...you just boot them out into the back yard.
Why is it sister's seem to lack judgement? My brother's wife is a go-getter. She works and takes care of the house. Doesn't drink, gamble or chew.
